You know that an athlete is something special when they push themselves like Pat Tiernan did!

Whoa, what happened? He was with the lead pack towards the end.
Moral victory!
Looked great with 300 to go - camera pans off him then with 100m he was all over the place, fell at 75m then wobbled in.
Central Fatigue 100%.
Saw his face with two laps to go and thought he looked very pale in the face. Which is sign of extreme fatigue I think. Great effort, full kudos to him
Amazing run, he deserved a top 8 finish out of that, but no shame in giving it everything.
Correct. The most important thing is to try your best always. All athletes should get an effort ribbon / medal.

I just watched the replay. You can catch a lot of his struggle in the finish line shots. Obviously gave it his all. I wonder what his last 400 was.

Yeah, the guy emptied the tank there. Mad props for laying it all on the line.

According to this article, he fell three times on the last lap.

They do, all the free gear and the trip.
Imagine if they change the rules, if you don't make your final, you don't get to keep your Olympic gear!

At the 2020 NCAA XC championships, Alex Masai ran his last 1000 in 3:47 and dropped from 6th to 32nd. Was that something special? I doubt if Alex thought so. He's probably a lot happier with his 27:45 6th at the NCAAs this Spring.

Respect to Tiernan. Olympian and ran himself to a standstill on the biggest stage of all. No shame in that.

Some typing "Is Harryness a sine of high testosterone?"as a thread title, makes all other misspellings irrelevant.
For sure, there is no shame in what happened to Tiernan, but there was nothing good about it. He imploded and many other runners, at all levels, have done the same thing.
Tiernan ran incredible.
Absolutely went to the well and then some when it counted most.

This. No shame, no reward either.
