kenya and uganda are culturally similar while kenya and ethiopia have a huge cultural difference ethipians are closer culturally to eritrea while kenya is closer to uganda and tanzania. Kenyans and ugandans are both bantu while ethipoians are from a different language group they are afro-asiatic
Kenya and the USA could swap singlets and nobody would notice.
Slow Olympic distance finals are dumb.
But not as dumb as Uganda.
Kitar is going to make everyone else look stupid.
Kind of sad that this thread is less popular than the Grant Fisher one.
Barega absolutely crushed the final 400. Great result for the Ugandans going 2-3. Cheptegei has seemingly been off form since taking down the 5k/10k records. Gotta be happy with Silver.
Habesha? Injera (anha "njera"), doro wat, Eastleigh, Hurlingham? The hell? You're so obviously a google "Kenyan". It's so sad seeing someone trying so hard yet giving themselves away.

Yeah because Fisher, Kincaid and Klecker are of Kenyan/Kalenjin ancestry.
The only people Kitar makes looks stupid is anyone pretending he isn't the most obvious doper in the entire sport.
He made the ultimate power move of both reeling in the rabbit up front and running a sit and kick race.
You could tell when the Ugandan got caught and took off again, Barega realized what they were doing and sunk into the middle of the pack.

Hasn't been at his best, but it's been a bit harshly judged. His 3K I don't think he should've been expected to run that fast (7:20-7:22) easily. He is the "slowest" guy to try to run that sort of time. If not fully sharp, it wasn't going to work out for him. In the 5,000 in Florence, he had to put in a lot of work. We've been a bit misled on his 5,000 prowess, as he can time trial really fast, but has never been a dominant performer on the circuit for it. He won a DL Final when the field let him go, but it's not like he is like Bekele and running 12:4x and 12:5x with big kicks to win the races. So the 12:54 in Italy was an OK race for him. You would've liked to see him hold on better for a 12:50 or 12:51, but he would've had to be in incredible form to beat Jakob and Hagos doing so much of the work in front of them.
He looked pleased with Silver, though reading the body language with him and Kiplimo immediately post-race, it appeared they were bemoaning not going harder with Barega from 400m out and letting him get the jump on them. Both guys were caught maneuvering the crowded pack instead of unleashing to stay on his shoulder.

The first ever distance medal for the U’s. Kiplimo was not devistated. He was very happy. Cheptegei just didn’t follow Mo’s rule #2 have lead at the start of the last lap. He did at Doha, Judy not here. Silver is not being devistated.
I would have loved to have been good enough to have gone home devistated with a Olympic Silver medal.

It was over for Rhonex and Kwemoi when they didn't push early. Kejelcha's kick severely lacking. I'm not unhappy with the result. All well deserved.
Why would a Kenyan “not be unhappy” with his supposed countrymen getting smashed? A Kenyan never cheers for an ethiopian. Never.
Kenny only pretends to be a Kenyan.
He's bad bad bad mama that one.

Grant Fisher does look like Kipketer now you mention it, and Rupp is about as Masia looking as they come. Good point!

What's your bother? I was asked to pick between two close African neighbours (tough question) and gave my answer with a clear explanation. I'm allowed an opinion, aren't I?
And what's that cr*p about the "misleading dominance" of Kenya over Uganda? With Ethiopia, we share a genuine rivalry and tradition going back more than half a century. We've consistently traded wins and losses at the top-level beginning in the 1960s. We don't have a rivalry with Uganda because, for starters, you need to be at a similar level for it to be called a rivalry. Kenya and Ethiopia have far more depth by every metric: Uganda has only won 4 (including 2 today) track & field medals in its Olympic history. Ethiopia? 50+. Kenya? 100+. Cheptegei and Kiplimo are just two (albeit very talented) athletes who don't a rivalry make. That's like saying Kenya is in competition with the UK because Mo Farah wiped the floor with our athletes for seven straight years. We do not!
I have great affection for Uganda on so many levels, but my preference for Ethiopia in this sense is driven by the fact I'm a true fan of this sport. That's all. No slights intended.
Yes Barega ran well and won gold. The Kenyans and Ugandans are still great runners as well.

Spare a thought for us. The last (and only) time Kenya won the Olympic 10,000m 🥇 was the great Naftali Temu in 1968. And so continueth a 53-year-old drought.

El K: Why do you think Eliud never seriously went after the 10,000? That is the question I have for him and Patrick Sang. He is clearly an aerobic monster with very good but not amazing speed. In 2009 he finished a disappointing 5th in the 5,000. It was pretty evident in the closing stages he didn't have the same sprint as in 2003-2007. 2010 was an off year without championships and yet he didn't race anything above 5,000. With Bekele's track form declining, it feels like a major missed opportunity.
Be consistent. In previous years you stated that beating an Ethiopian was more important than anything else.
As for Rojo, how about deleting all posts that suggest or spoil the results, since many of are not going to be able to see the races live?
Fake News. The Ugandans did not cry
This would be a fine result for Cheptegei because he is not a speed merchant. In conditions too steamy to solo a fast time, he was still able to medal, along with his teammate who has been better than him since those wr's. This in my view augurs some fine summer times for Cheptegei in Europe.
