Outkicks the Ugandans.
Outkicks the Ugandans.
Cheptegei may have beaten the world record but he did not have the ball to run fast.
And now Barega smoked him and won the gold !!!
I had a good feeling when he did his surge early in the race. You could tell he was feeling good. Then he went cagey the rest of the way and the Ugandans were too passive in my view. Barega pounced and showed his savvy.

I am happy for Barega.
You though, are an idiot.
It was over for Rhonex and Kwemoi when they didn't push early. Kejelcha's kick severely lacking. I'm not unhappy with the result. All well deserved.
I'm combing to therad on this Selemon MF Barega and Barega wins Olympic Gold and send the Ugandans back home crying !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
El Keniano if a Kenyan can't win would you rather have an Ethiopian win or Ugandan?
Crying? If anyone is crying, it's the Kenyans. We did not get gold but at least we got two medals. And we shall meet again in the 5000m.
What an immature post from an obviously very adult man!

I don't care. I just want the best to win. Both are neighbours and I'd prefer them over any non-Africans. But I've had a soft spot for Barega from the outset and he was due a win.
The Ethiopians are always tactical beasts. I feel the Ugandans have let their few recent minor victories get to their heads and still have a lot to learn. The Ethiopians are always humble no matter what.
This post was removed.
I guess I more or less answered your question. I prefer the Ethiopians, but that's just me. 😂

Why would a Kenyan “not be unhappy” with his supposed countrymen getting smashed? A Kenyan never cheers for an ethiopian. Never.

+1
I'm Ethiopian and i cheer for Kenyans. If an Ethiopian can't do it, i would want to see a Kenyan take it.
The rivalry between us is good because it makes us keep up the high standards. Most people say the EAST AFRICANS. That's Kenya and Ethiopia.

Thank you. There's been a lot of suspicion about whether the so-called El Keniano is a Kenyan and that post sealed it for me.
A Kenyan cheering for Ethiopians... over Ugandans? I've never seen one; hell, go on Twitter right now and check. [I am Ugandan, so probably biased, but I don't care; 've always hated the misleading dominance the Kenyans have had over us.]
El Keniano is American. Won't add any more qualifiers; it's so obvious.

Right back atcha! 100% agree.
With Kenya and Ethiopia, you've got a rivalry and tradition going back 50+ years. There are always occasional flashes of talent from other countries like Uganda, Eritrea, South Sudan, Morocco, Algeria, but their fields are never as deep. Uganda's pretty much just Cheptegei and Kiplimo, much like the UK was all Farah and Algeria, all Makh..

You folks have it in your minds there's a blood feud between Kenyans and Ethiopians: far from it! Yes, we're fierce running rivals but all that gets left on the field. We've never had political conflict and there's a huge Ethiopian community in Kenya (check out neighbourhoods like Eastleigh and Hurlingham in Nairobi). My favourite place to hang out is Ethiopian restaurants with my Habesha brothers and sisters and I'm known for inhaling that njera and doro wat like nobody's business.
Am I wrong to assume that the Ugandan's went home devastated, or would that be presumptuous on
my part?
I also have a soft spot for Barega. I like the way he goes for it even if he dies hard (see his 5k record attempt, and some of his 1500s). He deserved this
On paper Kiplimo looked good... but if you look at his 12;55 win... he did not look effortless as we would expect him too. We took little things like what shoes he wore when he ran 26:33 and placed weight on it. On the other hand you had barega who had some very interesting wins
go watch a youtube vid of him closing on Birgen in 3:35.. he lunges in the last 10 meters to just pip him at the line and looked good.. completely in control. That and his 52 second last lap at ethio trials were the two biggest indicators for me.
Still ... i thought that this was all about the last 3 laps. Wind up of 65+ to 60 to sub 55 close would favor selemon. Steady pain of 62 61 and 57 would favor ugandans.
The Ugandans were beat today because their strategy to put kissa out was just dump. They should have kept kissa in .. and had him pound the last 4 laps.

That’s interesting and I thought that the Kenyans would be more inclined to see their Uganda neighbors favorably as aside from the border there is little that separates them as they use the same language, Kiswahili, eat the same food (Ugali), and many of them even come from the same Kalenjin tribes.
I do know that there are regional differences in Uganda but I’m talking about the people who are not far from the border with Kenya close to Eldoret.
