At least Centro can say that he is 0.01 faster than Jye Edwards
I used to be a huge Webb fan before he ran for two doping clubs (Burrito Track Club and the doping NOPers). Really can’t ignore all of Centro’s championships and medals though.
Audience poll: Would you rather have an Olympic gold medal at 1500 meters or the American record?
I'll vote first - Olympic gold medal
Webb 4:06 as a HS soph
3:53 HS record
3:46.91 AR
Webb’s #2 mile is 3:48.92
Tactical mind advantage goes to Centro.
Absolute unit of a man goes to Webb.
Centro's mind and tactics in Webb's absolute raw talent and power=unbeatable
No Way.
Centro is clutch. The guy gets it done 9/10 times. Period.
Webb was choking on his own talent and was a disaster.
Yes Webb is probably the most talented distance runner the US has produced, but his career didn't match that talent.
Where is Webb's Olympic gold medal? Or any world medal?

Nope, Jim Ryun most talented.

Centro's Gold Medal begins and ends the discussion. A strong case can be made for Ryun as the altitude in Mexico City cost him a Gold Medal and being tripped in Munich possibly a second one.
Nice troll but how soon people forget how much Webb was getting bashed here. Every race that wasn’t a record was a failure. Every championship that wasn’t a win was a failure. Other pros called him overrated. Then his mile was at a small meet instead of a big stage.
Plenty of similarities. It will never be good enough, fast enough, winning time is too slow, everyone else bombed, got lucky, etc.
A gold represents winning an event on a single day, no matter how slow you ran. Having the American record represents being the best American ever. I’d take the record.

Agree about Centro.
But can you imagine Ryun and Keino in today's shoes and fast tracks? Imagine Ryun without his allergies/asthma/bad luck. He should've won gold in 1972.
Webb: million dollar legs, ten cent head. Centro: tactician extraordinaire.
Centro “by a mile.”
Webb’s 1500m PR isn’t even as fast as Centro’s
Jim Ryun still the greatest. If Centro medals again in Tokyo then we have a good discussion

Exactly. Centro has a faster 1500m PR that he ran years ago. Throw in all his medals including the olympic gold and a three time olympian and it's obvious people are only choosing Webb to shade Centro. Webb's American record will be broken in the end. But Centro will always be an Olympic gold medalist and a World Championship Silver and Bronze medalist. Not every athlete has that to their name.....
Yeah - saw that zoom w all the hs record holders and that seemed to be the consensus amongst all present

He'd look pretty fashionable in 8th place.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
