Once again the order. Daniels(showed some good curve running in the trials 200m) to Oliver( has shown excellent striaght line speed in the 100m) to Prandinin ( looks efficient and fast on the curve) to Thomas( top end speed may b the best of the four) . This shoukld b the order but its USA RELAY RUNNING AT THE OLYMPICS.... GETTING THE STICK A ROUND IS ALWAYS A MONUMENTAL TASK FOR THE USA.....
I almost always put my best runner on the 2nd leg. You have the option to make this a very long leg. If you have a runner who is easily your fastest, and has strength to be an amazing 150/200m runner, I think this is a no brainer and can get you AT LEAST .10 seconds.
3rd leg can either go to a great 200m runner or it can go to your slowest runner. I typically put my slowest runner at 3 because it can be squeezed down to about 80 meter.
I don't know how much work these world teams put into handoffs, but another consideration could be that your 2nd and 3rd runner are going to need to put twice the work into handoffs. they are giving and receiving. Richardson, not having any other duties, would have much more time and ENERGY to work on receiving and giving a handoff. By the end of the day, this can add up to a tremendous amount of full speed work.

Why even take the chance? Nails can glance off a baton. Too much risk. Too much nail before your finger. Totally unprofessional for a relay runner.
They be eating Jamaica's dust whether she runs or not.
As a HS coach myself I get exactly what you're saying. But I never had a killer 4x1, I never had 4 strong legs. When you have a weak leg we have to think this way. The US doesn't have to worry about or think this way. The US and Jamaicans often had beasts running the 3rd leg.
The US doesnt have anyone doubling in individual events do there is plenty of time to practice exchanges. I'd put her where she is most comfortable
Prandini will be doubling in the 100 and 200

womens 4x1 should be the two ladies who qualified in front of Prandini, and then thomas and richardson.
Coach, there are no weak legs, but the difference between the fastest and 4th fastest still might .25 second, give or take.

Is this certain? I know she finished 4th and will be the first offered the stop to replace Richardson but if I were her I would focus on the 200 and 4x100 only. She has zero chance of placing in the 100 but I think she has a very good chance to medal in the 200. She is currently ranked 38th in the world in the 100 and 4th in the 200.
* spot to replace

I forgot she now can run the 100. The 100 could be a good rust buster for her 200, it wont take too much out of her. However it might limit her relay practices.

Why?
With the curve that Prandini can run? The coach does not want Richardson third, or probably anywhere else for that matter.

According to the OP at least, that's exactly where the relay coach wants her.
Whether a control issue, or a genuine belief that's a better fit than anchor, I don't know, but if he's interested in at least winning silver, why wouldn't he want her on the team?

Who will Richardson practice the handoff with? She won't be allowed to train with other team members while she is suspended.
her suspension will be up by the time the games start. hopefully professionals can put it together with just a day or two of good work together during the games.

Why?
because those other ladies all have better top end then her
Please check but I don’t think an athlete under a ban can participate in official things.
Thus until he ban expires she can’t train with the team ; which gives two or so days to relay practice.
This would be so in the Uk and 98% certain of such.

I hope Prandini turns down the 100 spot and Gabby Thomas takes it. If the online outrage machine finds out that Sha’Carri Richardson got replaced by a white woman all hell will break loose. Gabby Thomas is already somewhat of a media darling (Harvard/epidemiology/racial justice) and won’t be criticized for taking the spot. Or just leave the spot empty as a sign of protest if nobody wants to take it.
