He got complacent.
He'll make the team, even if it is just 4x1 prelims.
He is not in the relay pool! Top 6.
If Norman does run the 200 he is in trouble!
Lyles looks like he should be in 19.7 or 19.8 shape based off his prelim and semi 100 times.
I think Bednarek may take the top spot in the trials based off how well he is running right now. Laird has had some extra time off since he didn’t run the 100. He will have fresh legs. He could still be in 19.8 or 19.9 shape. I think Norman might scratch since he already made the team in the 400 and the Olympic schedule makes it hard to do both events. If he does run I definitely see him taking a spot.
Fred Kerley is the wild card imo. Based off his 100 and 400 personal bests he could be in that 19.7 or 19.8 range as well.
Noah has always been a better 200 runner and has always stepped up when it matters. Plus there is more room for error if he doesn’t get the best start. He said would be ready by trials, but his aim is to peak at Tokyo. I still think he makes the team.
Didn't mention Laird because I am thinking his legs are shot by now, considering
all the races he ran at the ncaas and so little time to recover. All the collegians
have struggled at trials.I believe Ross in the 400 is the only collegian on the team so
far.For me the biggest surprise is Tonea Marshall not going to Tokyo. She had dominated
the college hurdles and had the second fastest time in the world coming into the trials.
I know she scratched the ncaa final to protect a hamstring twitch but I thought she
would be ready.Big disappointment.
That was one of the worst starts I’ve seen in a long, long time. He was out of it by 30 meters.
The further on the edge, the hotter the intensity.
Lyles gets another horrendous start in 200 final and he isn’t on the US team.
You think Norman will still run the 200m? I thought that was just incase something went wrong in the 400m so he still had another shot at making the team. Since he can’t race both at the Olympics. I hope he does tho.
Either the weight Lyles has put on has slowed him down or he’s hurt. We’ll find out after the 200m which he still is the favorite in. Albeit a very slight one if Norman runs. Norman is probably thinking he should of went the Kerley route this year. Colemans out, it’s wide open, and he could have two chances at gold well plus relays. Can they put Norman on the 4x100? No one runs the turn like he does. Even if he doesn’t run it at the Olympics I hope he runs it here.
It’d be a huge shock if Lyles doesn’t make the 200m team. I think he will fairly easy if healthy.
Is Laird and fanbullah in the 200? Maybe one of them sneaks up for third if Norman doesn’t run. I expected more out or sturgis the other day on the women’s side tho.anyone know what happened to Tamari Davis?
Didn't Michael Johnson used to say he was in the Danger Zone when preparing for the 200?
For him that was a good thing.
Fahnbullah is running for Liberia.
With Kerley in the mix, there is no room for error. I'm pulling Lyles, but I'm nervous for him, others look like they are better prepared.

Kerley hasn't put together a 200 yet. Not to say he won't, but there have been some guys who *should* be great 200m runners that don't quite put it together. Kerley hit top speed at 90m in the 100, I don't think that is quite what you want either. He is a great athlete so he can get away with it in the 100. But he might have some growing pains with running the curve the right way and then finishing with too much left or too little. That could cost him in a close finish.
Bednarek (barring injury) is a complete lock to me to be top 3. I think Lyles is going to have to come back on him and/or Kerley and Laird a la Norman in the 400. That being said, he's done it before. Norman I believe will scratch. So, 4 guys for 3 spots with some dark horses like Isiah Young.
Amazing how quickly these ace sprint guys fall off the pedestal.
That said, yesterday's 100 final will remain the best 100 of the year. (And not just because Gatlin was DFL.)

Also, just noting that Bednarek with a nice gap on the field with his 26.4mph max speed yesterday (next best was 26.2). Bodes very well for 4x100 and his 200 chances.
He is not in 19.7 shape based on his 100. He has looked pretty bad all year. Well, maybe not bad, but he doesn't look like he used to. He ran 19.90 earlier this year a couple weeks before he ran a 10.03 100... He just ran 9.95/9.97/10.05 in his 3 100 races this week. I'll say he runs 19.85, he'll be on the edge of making the olympic team. I think we'll have 5 guys sub 20.00, maybe 5 guys sub 19.90... He will not be the winner, he will be fighting for 3rd spot. Winner will be running 19.7's and we'll have a few 19.8's.
Lyles hasn’t looked good all season. However, in the 200 he beat Kenny b..the best 200 guy in the world except him
Correct me if I am wrong but I remember seeing that literally anyone on the USA Olympic Team could be selected to run in the relays. Like they could have put Lebron or Phelps on a leg of the 4x1 in past Olympics.
Flame away.
He just ran three decent 100s. Two at sub 10. He’ll make the team.
