I don't know all the American runners but can someone just tell me is this a genetic male running in the female trials?

How about 'it'.
I've got a barking cat and not sure what to call it either.
If Nikki some how wins the 1500, would it be inappropriate to call her the women’s 1500 meter Olympic trials champion? I mean that is the title of the race, right? I hope she wins just see how the announcers go about that.
No. Hiltz is biologically female.

Major news.
Kara Goucher shoulda just told her to f off and that she doesn't give a f about her pronouns.
If Nikki makes it to Tokyo, what will al-Jazeera call them?

They will carefully word it to say "Nikki Hiltz, winner of the women's 1500"

Wait, did you just assume that boars gender? Are we sure the boar identifies as male?
Also, why can't I identify as a black man or woman when my skin is white? Doesn't make sense considering people can identify as any gender. I want to identify as a salmon. Can I do that?
NBC Sports should have a special segment tonight where Kara issues a begging, tearful apology on her knees while the rest of the presenters look on scornfully.
Is this the new cultural revolution or what?
Utterly ridiculous. A biological female competing in a women's 1500. Her seems like the proper pronoun.
If Nikki truly felt she was a male, she would to too ashamed to race in the woman’s race, ever. That’s how real males think and act. A real male does not want to race in the women’s race, ever. He would consider it unfair and humiliating.
That’s how real males think and act.
How many of you biological males on here would actually sign up for the women’s race and line up with all the women and race them? None!
She might feel like getting a short hair cut and wearing shorts but that does mean you actually are a man that day.
In reality she couldn’t handle it if she truly felt like a man one day.
She made a mistake sure. I highly doubt it was malicious. If we just went around crucifying announcers who screw up specifics of athletes during a meet, Ato Boldon would have been out of the job a long time ago.
"I believe that is Galen Rupp coming up on the outside..out wait, that's just an official, TAKING THE LEAD"

And what's wrong with carefully wording things? The whole point of 'they' is to make you think twice about using gendered language. We don't actually want you to use 'they' unless it's absolutely necessary, we just want you to not to reference gender, especially when it's sensitive to the participants - as it is in this instance.
I don't get it. If she identifies as both a male and a female, you can't go wrong by calling her either.
What a pile of crap....
Her, she, he, they, it... wathever. It's women racing, no? So now the announcers have to be aware of the personnal life of every athlete running a race to avoid using the wrong pronoun that could offense someone in her/his/its own belief and self-esteem.
It's becoming a farce!

nikki sees themself as non binary, yet still sees fit to compete as a woman.Thats a bit odd.
Non-binary means you go back and forth. But I've never seen her run in the men's race.
Non-binary is not possible. Biologically, scientifically, no way possible. It’s time everyone stops pandering to and encouraging people with these mental health issues.
Let's apply the Hiltz rule to all transgender athletes - compete in the division that applies to the sex you were "assigned" at birth. After, all, if "they" is not (or no longer) a woman but is still running in the female division, then transwomen can and should run with the men.
