And the best 400m runners of the last several years generally have been speed guys that built the strength to run the quarter mile, unlike the traditional “long sprinters.” Look at guys like Gardiner, Makwala, Van Niekerk, Norman, Kerley - they all have run sub-19.9 or sub 10 or both, to pair with sub-44s.
