I'm 23 and live in upstate NY in a city of about 25,000 people. When I was in highschool I lived in a town of literally 1,000 people until I was 21 and never had a problem just friendly waves and encouragement. Since moving to the larger town I've been cussed at repeatedly, gotten the run forest run, had comments about my legs(short shorts), not wearing a shirt, called gay, challenged to a fight, hit by 2 cars (low speed, but almost splattered a third time), spit on, had cigarette butts thrown at me, etc etc...Usually I try to say something witty back or just stare at them as I run away shaking my head, because I really do pitty them. You almost have to feel sorry for someone that can only get their jollies by screaming insults at a guy running down the street. I only stopped once and I wasn't even the guy getting yelled at, it was 3 teenage punks by the local high school. All I said was is there gonna be a problem? To which they replied "no I was just encouraging you guys". Then all I said was keep your mouth shuit next time and we'll not have this misunderstanding in the future.
