+1, I can’t see anyone beating Simotwo today. He looked phenomenal at the Kenyan trials.

Cole Walsh NH at 5.31-17'5 1/2" A foot below his SB and almost 2 feet below his PB
Where does Grovdal have to place to become a top six threat for Tokyo? Fifth in front of Gemechu or Fantu Worku?

I think Kejelcha can run 7:26 on a good day, but I’ve no reason to believe he’ll be time-trialing today. The next best in the field, Kimeli, probably maxes out at 7:29. I say they go through 2k in a “disappointing” 5:03, then it slows for 600 m, and then Kejelcha runs 53.xx for 7:31.0.
Only 7:26? Kejelcha ran 7:28.00 three years ago in Gothenburg with a huge last 800. Second place was way back, something like 7:42. I would love to see him time trial a 7:25 today and drag Kimeli to a quick time. Certainly I would expect the winner to be under 7:30 but I guess we’ll see.
Late summer of 2018 through spring of ‘19, featuring that 7:28.00, has been arguably the best stretch of his career; it’s not self-evident that he’s faster over 3k 3 years down the road.
I’d peg Kejelcha at 3:31/7:26/12:45/26:30. He might be capable of better in the 5k/10k but it would require amazing pacing and conditions.
Like you I would love to see a fast race today, but I’ll be surprised if it’s under 7:28.
In the mile, can Musagala go from not a member of the sub 4 club to NR holder: 3.55.38?

Bislett does have Wavelight (used for Jakob in his 2k last year). We'll see what they set it at (if they use it), but if Kimeli/Kejelcha want to PB/run fast I could see it spurring them on if the first 1K is paced well. Kinda a wild card for this conversation.
I do agree with your Kejelcha assessment. He is as strong at 5K and stronger at 10K but unclear on his shorter stuff where Salazar was really pushing him to thrive (indoor mile/3k).

Top 4 or 5, and well clear of McColgan and Yasemin Can. Would like to see her lop 20 seconds off her 14:51 track PB. She’s 31 - is she a bit suspicious?
Can 19yo Tadese Worku take 9 sec off his PB here?
That would be a cheeky outcome.

Interesting... as a footnote she ran 14:56 in the Rio (pre-Super Shoes) final for 7th at age 26. 11th in that race? One Shelby Houlihan in 15:08.89.

I think it would require very poor pacing, bad conditions or a dawdling 1000 from 1400-2400 to have a 3k that slow. Though maybe that 53-high 400 points to the first. Kejelcha ran that incredible 10K at the Ethio Trials. Kimeli beat Simiyu by 3 seconds in a solo, front-run 13:02 at altitude. Simiyu just ran 12:55 narrowly losing to Kimeli.
I think these guys are in 7:25 shape and reasonably sharp. 7:27-7:29 highly possible.
I can't see Kate Grace winning, but that would be an awesome story.
The women's 5,000 is interesting, Obiri did lose at 5K, but she did beat the two in the field here and won the 10,000 right?
I will pick Simotwo to pip McSweyn in the mile with Jye Edwards fast-closing for 3rd.
Warholm world record of 46.71.
Only 33 men have run sub 7.30 in history, can Kimeli pass a legend in 33rd to join them?
Guys are struggling in the vault today. Lot of last attempt clearances at heights they should be making. The Lavillenie bros both needed a 3rd attempt at 18'1". Kendricks and Duplantis both over at 18'5" on their first attempt.

Can Kimeli run sub 7.30?
Bol 53.33 hurdles would've placed her a solid 3rd at US Trials.
Bol another good PB of 53.33. She's got a strong bronze medal chance. It was a huge break for her for Little to falter at the Trials chasing after a mid-52s time instead of playing it safe. Very much like Bol's chances over Cockrell's and not aware of anyone else running better than the USA top 2 and Bol. The Jamaicans are solid.
Kejelcha wearing Adidas?
61.33 first lap

Noticed this too! Still coached by Rowberry?
That was ridiculous. 7:26.25 off of slow splits. Someone get that last 1000. Krop ran great too, maybe he struggles more at altitude. Kimeli looked tired.
7:26.25, Kejelcha.
