To all of you who have been saying the super spikes don't work, did you see that? 10 guys just broke the NCAA meet record. LOL.

This year was strategic too. 13:58 first 5k in a race won in in 27:41? BIG negative split. 14 guys still in it at 8k. Last lap in 57, 5 guys sub 60 the last lap.

In previous years without the shoes, if anyone took it out in 13:58 then there might be 2 guys left at just 6k and they'd be suffering.

I at least am not saying they don’t work. I’m saying they do work, and that it’s ok that they work. Progress is good.

All the photos I have seen they are in super shoes but I may have missed someone. Nur is in brand new avanti it looks like that adidas put out. From what I read it has a plate and the newer foam that would qualify but I’m not 100% sure. Adidas has a flat super shoe so it makes sense they would now have a spike. I really don’t see anyone showing up to the ncaa’s not wearing a super shoe of some sort but there could be one or two.

I could be wrong on this but I’m pretty sure Dever ran a 10k in regular ol’ adidas spikes in May. He ran 28:28 which is a great time (well, 5 years ago). He pr’d 47 seconds in this race and, yes, he was in dragonfly’s even though Tulsa is sponsored by adidas.

Big freakin' deal. They broke a meet record......so what? A record in an event where it never happens that someone tries to run as fast as they can for the whole race. It's not like 10 guys broke the 400m meet record, a race where they always try to run as fast as possible.

Every so often, the sun, moon and stars get in alignment, and a whole bunch of people show up to a race in peak form, with perfect conditions, and fantastic rabbiting. Centro's PR (3:30) was set in a race that he finished 10th, which is faster than the Olympic record. Edwin Soi finished 10th in 12:55 (Paris, 2012), which is faster than the Olympic record. That's why they keep those records for best time for a given place, because these anomalies do happen.

If the worlds best twenty-five 10000m runners (which is what the NCAA meet is for collegians) all lined for the Olympic final, and someone led for 7k at 26:55 pace, over half the field would break the Olympic record (27:01). Despite the fact that very few people run under 27 minutes in any given year. In a nut-shell, this is what happened last night.

It was an NCAA *meet* record, not an NCAA record. How many NCAA championship 10Ks have even gone through 5K in under 14:30 in the last 40 years? I’d be willing to bet it’s less than 10. They always walk through 5K. Literally no one tries to run a fast 10K AT NCAAs.

If the hope of shoe technology helping times is getting US distance runners to not sit and kick at championship races anymore, I’m all for it. Life is too short for sit and kick BS. LOL

It's amazing to me how people won't accept the facts. I showed you that there have been more sub-28s this year than the last 10 y ears combined. Counting all meets. Tons of guys have tried to run fast over the last 10 years - stanford, mt. sac, etc.

You've got coaches painting over their sponsor's logos and you won't accept it.

Bro don’t use mt sac as a meet for reference, that’s an early season meet. This is way different. Athletes at their peaks vs. a non championship race.

Doesn’t matter, the times ran at the ncaa 10k this year would have beaten out ‘92 Olympic final. Most major world championship in the 90s were won in and around 27:30/27:40. You think Dever and Mantz are the same caliber runner as Skah and Chelimo?

People who are dyed in the wool believers in the super spikes shaving off massive time from long distance track races are the same people who believe in Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster. No doubt the shoes help, the technology is always improving. But to suggest it shaves off even a second a lap is a slap in the face to the athletes.
