Quick takes.
3x800m is a tried and proven solid workout leading into peak 1500m season. Yeah it's totally unnecessary to do during heats/races, but no question it was entertaining. It's the 2nd or 3rd most interesting point of the night. Furthermore, the times he ran were very impressive given the 800m ability I thought he had right now. I was optimistic for Centro after the 3:35 and I'd say this 800m is an improvement. I think he'd have less to gain than what he could lose by running a good 1500m than a bad one. This 3x800m was certainly also low risk from possibly negatively affecting his confidence.
The difference in direction BTC and brooks beasts have taken the last few weeks have been noteworthy.
The 800m will he one of the more fascinating events of the Olympics. If you picked your 4 favorites to win, i might bet that someone other than those four would win.
2nd fastest high school 800m in last 25 years, only behind Brazier (by 0.1 sec.) Wild. Academics aside, is Stanford a great school for him running wise? (Whether it is or not, id pick Stanford as well)
I'm less enthused by Kerrs 3:31 than the general audience here. It is certainly a great time and a step further for him. He has always been a frontrunner though and I dont know how much this performance changes my thoughts on how I think he'd do in a championship race. I guess it makes me actually think about how he'd do in a championship race, but I dont take much more away than that, except my previous point that brooks beasts have come out of nowhere to have a great season so far.
D3 guy running 13:53 winning a heat has PRd by well over a minute this spring? Been running with roots running? Another pat on the back for coach Hansen.
I dont know where Spencer brown goes, but as long as he is competing in these meets, he adds value to a pro running team id think. Disregarding his own results, has he been a part of the rest of brooks beasts success this spring? The personality, interesting exposure for the team, etc. can go a long way for overall team morale and the mental wellbeing of the team during the hardest training blocks. He feels a bit like the Rudy of professional running, and thats pretty awesome for everyone close to it.
