i wouldnt call his ironman prep successful. he was training for a sub 10 full IM and he was just under a 5.5 hr half. i do envy his durability and he has incredible work ethic. dont think he has ever missed a run in the year or so i have been casually following his training. if he can carry over that consistency to higher mileage then i think he will definitely finish and possibly with a decent time, but with his mass he will surely struggle over 100 miles up elevation he has never experienced in altitude he's not used to.
I share a similar opinion... I follow casually. I admire the work he puts in. And the quality of the videos are of course excellent. I do think the weather in Cancun was probably killer, and it was a bit of a pivot, but not as convincing as you'd have hoped.
Having said that, Leadville is a different beast. He hasn't a long time (mid-late August? 10-12 weeks roughly?) to make sure he gets altitude work in. He needs to be at least as well informed on the race as he has been for triathlon with his athlete coach. To be fair, she was excellent for him. Can he get (has he maybe already got) speaking to and working with someone who is running too? I think he can finish if he understands slow pacing and just aims to finish. He has shown he can plug away in an IM for 11ish hours, so with training and the correct adjustment of intensity, he can finish. BUT he really, really, needs some knowledgeable help.
As for the camera crew, they'll have drones and small cameras - maybe camp out in places. That'll not be an issue for them - it may be for him, if he can't ignore them.
