Mantz and Kiptoo both fresh for the 10,000. Should be an epic showdown.
Mantz is only entered in the 10,000...trials are the next week. An unfortunately fast turnaround from NCAA nationals if you're doing the 10,000.

I think this is a pretty good indication of what Mu, Hocker, Mantz, and Teare are going to do in the Trials.
400 for Mu is probably based on the fact that her 400 PR would have won the 2019 US championship while her 800 PR would have had her finish 3rd. As such, she will almost assuredly make the US team in the 400. Still, she might have a better chance of medaling in the Olympics in the 800.
Mantz is clearly 10K or bust, and probably has the marathon in his future.
Hocker has been a machine and probably is the right kind of runner to go for both. So long at the US Trials stay tactical, his ability to switch gears on the final lap is insane. Gives him two chances to make the team.
Teare choosing 5K shocks me a little. I think he's closer to the top US runners in the 1,500 than he is in the 5K. He is capable of 3:35 in the 1,500, but I don't think he is quite capable of the 13:13 needed in the 5K. He also has performed better against his teammate Hocker in the 1,500 than he has in the 5K. I also don't see this as a case where he will drop down at the Trials, as I don't think his closing speed in the 1,500 is there right now to make the team, and that's something he needs to be working out right now in races, working on the long wind up to home.

Not really - he's got no shot at making the US 10000m team.
I'm with you on the last three, but not Mu. She said during the broadcast on the SEC Outdoor Championships that she'll do the 800 at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Doing the 400 at NCAAs is more to cement her legacy and try to break the collegiate record. If she broke it last week at SECs, we probably would see her in the 800 at NCAAs, but she didn't, so she'll give it another go.
Manga as a sub 27:50 man who hasn't shown his season ceiling has a chance of making the team. Some posters act as if I.S. athletes can't produce huge personal best like so many foreigners every year. He could very well produce a 27:20 or 28:20 at the trials, so yes he does have a chance. O'Tear seems capable of of 13:10 if not slightly faster, but is that enough if he performs to his abilities? All the American collegians mentioned in the last few post have a shot of making the U.S. team

Why in Gods name is Mu scratching the 800 AGAIN? She better not choke again or it’s gonna be FUNNY.
She didn't choke at SEC.
I would love to see My run sub 49.50 and Kiptoo win his double but isn't he in the 5/10,000? I would still like Mantzcand the Oregon dup all run personal best but I like Kiptoo braveness on frontrunning and doing it fast now slowing races down.

His comment was directed toward what happened at NCAA indoors.
Where are the actual entries/names?
I suspect Mu is going for the 400m collegiate record. More stats towards winning the Bowerman i assume.
The only reason MU lost is because in an indoor 400m, you have to cut in to lane 1 which she didn’t get the lead before the last lap. From that point on, she panicked and wasted too much energy in lane 2 trying to pass the USC girl and ran out of gas the last 50m.
Mu should definitely win in an outdoor 400m, She doesn’t have to worry about cutting in for position in an outdoor 400m.
Why they decided to split up men's and women's race days and therefore have to knock out almost all men's finals on one evening is beyond me. As it stands, they have to fit in the men's 1500m final just 63 minutes before the men's 800m final, which itself is just 53 minutes before the men's 5000m final. I would guess that is why Hocker's not trying the 800/5000m double or the 1500/800. I'm surprised not to see Cooper Teare in the 1500m, though. Maybe they thought Hocker could contend for the win in both 1500 and 5000 (up to 20 pts) with 104 minutes between them but that he might not score a lot of points in the 800m. For Teare, though, why not both? He's definitely good for at least 5 points in the 1500m (Yared, Eliud, Cole) and 8 or 10 in the 5000m.
It’s the same as the nationals program and it made sure less people were around each other with less crossover when people were still stressed about Covid... makes sense I think.
The performance list has been finalized

The cut off times for most of these events are faster than years past, which I believe is a direct result of many athletes utilizing the extra covid season. This will probably have an effect for the next 1-2 years but I could be wrong. Either way expect a drop off in 2 years in what it takes to make the top 48. I know a good bit of the 48 declared athletes wouldn’t even be competing this year had it not been for the covid year.

Agreed he has (almost) no chance at making the team. But a top 3 performance at trials would be a break through for him. Obviously he's prioritizing trials over doing the dirty double.
Anyone have a clue as to when heat sheets will be available?

Per the schedule on page 9 of the Pre-Championships Manual (link below), looks like they are due out by 2:00 PM ET tomorrow (Tuesday).
