This is what people said about Donovan Brazier in 2016 his freshman year at Texas A&M where he destroyed the collegiate 800 record then went on and bombed at the trials. No one is ever an easy guarantee to make the team especially the collegians.
That right there is 100% true. Everyone has been hyping up the college kids saying they are definite slots but this is not the case. These kids did full summer XC training, XC season, indoor and outdoor. The collegiate season/year is long. The pros don't start actual training until January or February. Some of those kids definitely have a chance to make the team, but theres prelims and such and it's going to be very tactical unless they just decide to rip it.
A lot of these kids have bright futures, but I'm not expecting them to make the team this year.
