College athletes find this balance. There are times you need to buckle down and prioritize your training and recovery, and there are times when you can party and cut loose a little. Dont box yourself in.
Exactly. Now I'm not nearly as good as OP, I'm a middle of the road 800/1500 (1:55, 4:11) guy but I always had two rules for training while in high school (and now in college).
1. Don't drink in competitive season 2. Drink as often as you'd like in the offseason.
Now I'm not saying don't go to parties during the season, nor am I saying go absolutely insane in the offseason. I still train hard through winter and summer but I'm just not as focused on racing so I can afford to lose some recovery now and then. And as for going to parties in season, just don't drink. Parties almost always need a DD, especially in highschool. So to OP, stop being a jerk to look cool (as you outlined above) and just ask your friends if you can come/DD. If they say no, then you probably need new friends.
