His previous 400 best was 49.55, he ran 1:45 that year. 47.68 is a great result for him
Wind was blasting so probably worth a second faster.
he's split 45 before and the other times in the heat werent fast either so i could say this is worth a 46, yea
I didn't know he'd split a sub-46, but this was a very good result for him in that he not only blasted his pr by 2 seconds, but the vast majority of the racers were way slower than their pr's, 1.5 to 2 s slower in many cases. That suggests he can run sub 47. Prior to this, it was a little hard to figure out how he was so good in the 800m, because his workouts online weren't very fast, yet he seemed to have a bit of a tough time with them, his 1500m pr was not quick (he just got it down to 3:43), and he ran his 800s like a guy who had to back off the early speed. Yet, he was able to nearly medal months out of his college season and close like a freight train even on Brazier last season, lowering his pr down to low 1:43. At any rate, the 1500m drop and this race suggest that he's going 1:42 this year.
Damn pretty good, he's got the wheels. You gotta figure peaked in good conditions he can dip just into 45-high.

Source? I doubt he’s that fast.

Worth noting he won the 800m in 1:45.43 at the same meet he ran this 47.6.

hoppel beat a couple of 46 guys.
it's worth 46 1/2
plus he's run 143 low. 1 meter behind world #1 at peak.
which means he can open in 49/50 in the 800, with a 52/53 on top.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE_k1QCC1hcOf course he can split a 45 or 45.5.
Who cares about his 400 time from blocks?

Bruce can’t break 50 that was wind aided

to be honest i read it here on letsrun that he did it at kansas relays. so it could be made up.
he is definitely not fast enough to be a 4/8 guy, but you dont need to be one to split 45.high
the true 4/8 guys at hoppel's level in the 800 should be splitting low 44s
I found a claim that Hoppel split 45.7 at the Kansas Relays 2019 on an old thread, "Who is Bryce Hoppel?" The fastest split I'd seen for him was 46.68. It's possible that he actually split 45.7 but I have not been able to find it. The race seems to be behind a paywall on flotrack. However, I found the last ten seconds of the race, during which Hoppel moves from way back in fourth on the turn to nearly steal the race, losing to Wichita St. by .07. Not sure exactly where the mark is for the last 100m but he had an incredible finish. Also, the KU coach Stanley Redwine, who was a very good 800m runner in the 1980s, remarked specifically on his 4x400m anchor:
“Bryce (Hoppel) continues to be amazing. Two events that he just dominated, then he came back and ran an awesome leg in the 4×4, so it is just a fun thing to watch when you have an athlete competing at that level.”
Add to this that this 47.68 beat more than a few guys with pr's sub 47.
Not counting Hoppel, for guys with listed pr's and race times, the average over the whole field was just over 1.2 seconds slower than their pr. He beat two sub-47 guys. So, it's reasonable to think that he'd have run mid-to-high 46 in better conditions.
I like B. Hopper but no way he is capable of running 45 high this year, I give him 46 low on a very good day and maybe chance at 45 high the same odds as winning the lottery.

There’s always that one guy, isn’t there?
Hoppel's 4x400 split at the 2019 KU Relays was 46.08
Hoppel is likely a 46 high runner
Gotta love letsrun. Here we have a fresh FAT 400 time and people are still speculating about split times.

As I commented earlier, he ran a 1:45 800m at the same meet on the same day. It's unclear which event he did first(?), but either way it's valid to speculate as to what his true 400m speed might be, since he was clearly not just participating in the meet to assess his true 400m ability, but rather to get a workout in.
