Hello,
Hope everyone is well. I’m in 11th grade, my first track race is coming up and I am trying to get the to bottom of an issue I have before I get into the season.
Here is the issue: During races, I get an incredible urge to puke, which slows me down dramatically in order to not vomit. This will happen upwards of ~10-15 times and during the mile, it devastatingly hurts my time.
I get very very nervous before my races and it may be because of this. I eat well and on race day, I’ve tried staying away from gluten and dairy. I’m really confused why this happens and it’s caused me to not want to race because it’s stopping me from reaching my potential.
The reason why I’m thinking it may be psychological is because during hard workouts I’m fine, but I get the urges in the few minutes immediately when I start putting pressure on myself to go harder.
Has anyone had this issue, or does anyone have recommendations?
