Now, before you start scoffing at me and saying that this is impossible and I don’t know what I’m talking about, let me give some context. I’m a freshman in college, 19 years old and male. I have never trained specifically for the 400m. My NATURAL 400m time is 59 seconds with little to no training whatsoever, only distance training throughout high school cross country (so I have a good stamina/endurance base already and am fairly experienced with running). I can easily go months without running and then run a 59 second 400m. Now my question is, if I were to hyperfocus on sprinting training from now (mid April) to mid August (4 months total), following some sort of 400m-targeted plan, could I possibly shave off enough time to run a 54-53 second 400? If not, what do you think I can manage?
I can give more context and details if needed. Any responses will be appreciated, this has been on my mind for a long time now and is stressing me out.
