XC season just ended and we’re going straight into track. I have the Saucony Kilkenny XC8 spikes. Should I get different ones for track or will they be fine?

They'll be fine. Great, even. Especially if they didn't give you any problems in XC.
When I was a freshman and sophomore I used to run in XC spikes all year round. I was new to racing in spikes and also new to high school competition so it didn’t really matter what spikes I ran in.
As I got older the switched to running XC in XC spikes and track in track specific spikes. You really do notice a difference in how much faster you run in track spikes vs XC spikes, but the difference would be negotiable for a newer runner. I say that once you get under 5 minutes for the mile (assuming you are a male) you should probably considering investing in track specific spikes.
I sense a newer runner wrote:

Not a new runner, actually! I’m a high school senior and I’m gunning for a 4:10ish 1500. I’m not at a school where we’re given much advice or instruction about anything besides what workout or run we’re doing that day, which might be why I come off that way.
Appreciate the advice!
Honestly kilkennys are a tad too heavy for track running for me. You can get victory 3s for very cheap right now and they make a world of difference. I’d give them a try.
Won’t make a massive difference but could be the difference between you running or not running sub 4:10.

All right, I’ll definitely check them out. Thanks for the help, everyone.
go on ebay
Just got the Zoom Victory 3’s (on eBay, but I get all my shoes there so that was happening anyway.)
Thanks, strangers on the internet!

After several weeks, I can confirm that they make a difference. I didn’t think I’d feel the weight difference from the Kilkennys, but I do, and they push me towards my toes more when I need to really get moving. And I broke 4:10 today!
Thanks again, and if anyone else has ended up here I’ll add my recommendation for the Victory 3’s.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
