The last line of the article caught my attention.
"Running has become a part of his life as he runs at least 5,000 meters everyday for the last 60 years. Running makes him feel younger, said Li."
I assume that's not true in the sense he's done it every day for 60 years. How could we contact the guy or the author to find out?

80-year old Chinese man runs 28:06 5000 (Asian 80+ record), article says he's run at least 5km for 60 + years

I looked through some Chinese language versions of this original story and the only place that the 5km per day is mentioned is in one of the headlines. Can't seem to find a "by-line" either. Maybe I'm missing something or it's in another version somewhere.

I assume it means that on days he runs, he runs at least 5K. Not that he has run at least 5K every single day for 60 years.

Rojo it's your website, you can post the articles you want obviously, but seriously why would you care?
A lot of runners are ritualistic die hards. This story is not that interesting.
Didn't Dave Bedford or Ron Hill have the longest streak?
I mean, in a way running 5k a day is fascinating but is it really that big a deal? Wouldn't you want to take a break if you are feeling ill?
And how are you going to verify whether he ran 5k in the 1960s, which is 60 years ago? Impossible, you just have to go on his word and whether you believe him. He wouldn't have footage of every single day and that's the only verifiable way to determine he did what he said he did, or if he had eyewitnesses.
You are basically saying 'how do we confirm what this guy is saying is true?' when there is no answer to this question. -
That's an interesting record considering Alabama, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Tennessee all have faster age records.
-
Could be. We'll maybe never know. Ron Hill stopped at 52 years five years ago. He was 24 when he started his streak. If this guy started at 20 he could have run at least 5 km every day for that time. It's on the lower end of the likely scale but definitely possible.

He probably actually did run everyday for 60+ years. I’ve met many elderly in China and it’s pretty common to do some form of exercise daily. Whether that be taichi or dancing at the corner of malls, etc.
Usually the elderly I’m China (from what I’ve noticed, been told, and seen) have much more free time when living in lively Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. No kids to take care of, the kids take care of them, nutrition and health of body and mind are usually of upmost concern. -
The world record is sub-21 by Ed Whitlock, so probably not really an Asian record.

I ran the a slightly slower time in Beijing last year as part of a 4 miler at 80 years of age, so I could hypothetically have held the record he broke.
