Pretty much everywhere I read says it’s London Calling. I don’t even know if that’s my third favorite. Give ‘me enough rope and the clash are both better. What do you think?

For me it is:
London Caling
The Clash / Combat Rock tied in 2nd
1. London Calling
2. Sandanista
The Clash and London Calling are really good, Give Em Enough Rope is decent, Sandinista is good if you have the patience. Combat Rock is pretty bad and Cut the Crap is an embarrassment.
Personal ranking:
1. London Calling
2. The Clash
3. Sandinista
4. Give 'Em Enough Rope
5. Combat Rock
6. Cut the Crap
If you prefer the classic punk sound, The Clash and Enough Rope are the obvious frontrunners. London Calling is best synthesis of all their different sounds and that's why it's the most critically-acclaimed.
London Calling is probably the "best" but i like the first two better.
The image on the London Calling album cover is of bassist Paul Simonon. Taken by Pennie Smith at the NYC Palladium in 1979.
London does call. It's true.
Probably London Calling. Followed by The Clash. I'd put This is Big Audio Dynamite ahead of Combat Rock, although the former was a post Clash band, led by Mick Jones.
1. London Calling
2. The Clash (UK version)
3. The Clash (US version)
4. Black Market Clash (ok, I know it’s an EP compilation)
5. Combat Rock
6. Sandinista (would move up 2-3 slots if it were paired down to the best 10-12 songs on a single disc)
7. Give Em Enough Rope (would be better without the mainstream 70s rock production)
.
.
.
8. Cut The Crap (although “This Is England” is good, plus I saw them on the 1984 tour)

Sandinista would move up to #4 if you took 10 - 12 best songs?!? (Spits up Endurox) Wow, just wow.

Not sure what’s “wow” about that. It’s a very good album, but hard to listen to top to bottom given all the idiosyncrasies spread throughout. For what it’s worth, CBS thought similarly when they released “Sandinista Now!” as a 12 song promo (Google it for the track listing). If that had been the released version of Sandinista, I’d rank it right behind London Calling and The Clash.

Coincidentally, the same day I saw this thread, I came across this story about a re-worked version of Cut The Crap. I haven't listened yet, but it can't be any worse than the original:
https://www.loudersound.com/features/meet-the-guy-who-hated-the-clashs-last-album-so-much-he-re-recorded-it-for-themranking Clash records is like ranking Beatles records...it's like they were different bands every 3 years.
Hard to compare the perfect production and sophistication of London Calling to the buzzsaw of the first album. To the experimentism of Sandinista.
I'll basically go with
London Calling
gap
Early albums
Combat Rock
Sandinista
London Calling is like the Sistine Chapel - it can't really be compared to anything else, it's so good.
I read that when it came out the band duct taped a critic to a pool table to he had to listen to the whole thing.

I can believe it. After all, they proclaimed they were "the only band that mattered".

This is the correct answer ^^^^^^^
London Calling by far. That's not just their best album, it's one of the greatest in rock history.
By the way, that Clash sound and vibe was we all love was invented here:

I really like Big Audio Dynamite. And that was arguably their best album, for sure.
I go with Sandanista, for its sheer volume and diversity. Also love Joe Strummer's 5-6 solo albums.

Same here. My favorite is probably Tighten Up Vol. 88, but all of theirs through The Globe have spent a lot of time in my CD player.
I still get annoyed thinking about the time I missed seeing them. They opened for U2 on the Achtung Baby tour, but something happened (I forget what) and we got delayed driving to the stadium and totally missed BAD. Dang it!
