Hello letsrunners,
This summer I decided to start doing higher mileage, so I bumped my mileage from an average of 55 to 70 with a few weeks at 80. This was build up all summer, until I was hitting peak mileage in August. I had a real road race where I pr'ed in the 5k by about 15 seconds just off of base training.
Then we come back to school and I do my first workout of the summer. The next week we do our next race and I go a minute faster than I did the year before in an 8k. After that though, I don't run near my potential in the 8k and today I went like 3 mins slower than my pr. We do a workout every Tuesday which usually consists of 4-5 mile repeats at 5k race pace with 3 mins rest during the week, then an 8k race on the weekend. Also, I've kept my mileage consistent to what I did in the summer.
During the races I feel like I don't have any power in my legs when I hit the 5k of an 8k, and today I actually had to walk during the race. What's wrong with me????
