I'm Conservative, but disagree. But better than killing pre-born babies.
Well, it may really be a problem. If you can only get sex while you are married, there is a lot of frustration to go around.
"Utah ranks No. 1 in subscriptions according to Benjamin Edelman a Harvard economics professor who reported his findings in the article Red Light States: Who Buys Online Adult Entertainment?
[There were] only two states with subscription rates higher than 3.6 per thousand home broadband users: Utah and Mississippi. Utah topped the list, with 5.47 users per 1,000."
By the way, my LDS friends are some of the nicest people I have. met. But the stats above tell you a lot about human nature.
It turns out that there is not a little hypocrisy in this obviously unconstitutional law. This story was admittedly old because I recalled a comment on this subject with regard to pay cable in Utah in Eric Schlosser's work, but about ten years ago here were the facts:
"After controlling for differences in broadband internet access between states – online porn tends to be a bandwidth hog – and adjusting for population, he found a relatively small difference between states with the most adult purchases and those with the fewest.
The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users; Montana bought the least with 1.92 per 1000. “The differences here are not so stark,” Edelman says.
Number 10 on the list was West Virginia at 2.94 subscriptions per 1000, while number 41, Michigan, averaged 2.32.
Eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year’s presidential election – Florida and Hawaii were the exceptions. While six out of the lowest 10 favoured Barack Obama."
Utah resident/politico here - the bill is dumb, but it only goes into effect if 5 other states pass a substantially similar policy. So until then, this will sit unused in statute.
Porn is far more likely to be banned by the woke mob in America than it is by religious extremists. Although the two come together when it come to fighting porn.
First of all, this is not actually happening because if you read the legislature it does not take effect unless at least 5 other states legislate the same law. That is not happening, this is purely symbolic.
I think this is probably legal to implement at a state level although this law would be illegal at a national level. I would think enacting something like this would have the same result as drug bans in creating a black market. This would be even easier to smuggle since you would just need to go to a neighboring state and there are no federal laws regarding crossing state lines with this treated contraband.
If I've learned anything in life, it's that banning or making something illegal not only immediately fixes the problem, but furthermore, brings zero ongoing, massive implications with it.
Like, for example, how illegal sex work and rape and assault and misogynist behavior and teenage pregnancies and (deep breath) sex out of wedlock will increase, effectively sabotaging the conservative's own best laid plans. That would never, ever happen!
....Right, Bible belt?

What do you consider to be pornography? The definition of this term is key. Smut films & magazines are examples of pornography, but so is erotica. Does art contribute nothing to society? What about books? Lady Chatterly's Lover, Venus in Furs, the works of Oscar Wild, et al...do you find these to be morally reprehensible and contribute nothing to society?
Who needs porn when every man has 5 wives?
at the end of the day porn is for losers in life so this doesn't effect me.
Would be awesome if porn was eradicated and anyone who distributes it publicly hung, but until then, keep on shielding your eyes from it to preserve your soul and dopamine receptors.

Based!
VPN is the key and everyone knows it.
Very pleased to see this. I bet Utah will become even more dominant in distance running as a result. And they will all be more virile and nubile as well.
Get ready for Utah to be ripped, smarter, more financially successful, and more focused than the rest of the union. After 6 months of this policy, the other red states won’t be able to resist following suit. Idaho, Wyoming, Alaska and Texas specifically.
