I've been running barefoot for some time. It's great. Shoes are not only unnecessary but quite harmful.
Good luck to all.

I barefoot run about 20% of time and hope to increase it but winter is coming what should I do ......what should I do?
What surfaces do you run on? If I ran barefoot around here I would have shards of glass permanently embedded in my foot.
grass mostly....but sometimes I will curve over to the road to see I can handle it....to my surprise it is not to bad until I hit stone!....ouch...
surface is largely irrelevant. i used to run on grass for a month or so but then switched to the road. occasionally, to get a good massage, i run on gravel. but it's only road running now.
if you run properly (make shorter steps and try to glide over the surface) then barefoot running becomes natural (as it should because it is natural). years of acquired habbit of wearing shoes can be easily forgotten by a few weeks of running and walking barefoot. which shows that nature can take over quickly even after years of being abused.
I have been barefooting for about a year, occasionally walking around my neighbourhood roads to help toughen the soles, and during the summer I ran barefoot often, a high of 10 miles a few times, it felt great and previous knee pains and such went away. Barefooting is awesome, but I am currently "nursing" an quad pain injury back and it doesn't hurt anymore, but still feels a bit weird on some runs. I know that barefoot running forces the muscles to absorb more shock than before and the joints less, so would it be risky to barefoot again until its 100%?? I took 2 weeks off and am 3 weeks back into running.
i havent been barefoot running since college started, it isn't that fun except for dirt and grass, and there really isnt a large enough section of that here to get in a good run (charlottesville,va)
i had a bad form of plantar fasciitis that i cured by running barefoot. good luck to you!!!

Panorama Farms XC Course. Two laps = 10 miles. Ridge Road is dirt, and so is Dick Woods. Can't remember how rocky either or those two roads are, but I know they aren't paved. You can do up to 18 out and back on Dick Woods, or 8 out and back on Ridge Road. I would definitely go Panorama first though because the grass is like a putting green the whole way around. Might have to pay to use it though. Do a google search for the Panorama website.
Barefoot running cured all my ills! I used to have arthritic knees and was forced to travel about on an electric scooter. I also had asthma, a receding hairline, and a mean case of blindness.
I started running barefoot and now I can see clearly, I have a full head of long, flowing hair, I threw out my inhaler, and I only use my scooter at the grocery store(because it's fun!). Thanks bare feet!
running barefoot is for inbreeds...have fun with gangrene one day...
I use to run in shoes and damn I use to always be ill. I also use to shower everday too with soap. I also use to go to the dentist for a regualr check-up. But now that I run barefooted I don't feel ill anymore!! It has also influenced me to shower less and save the whales! It has even taught me that I don't need a dentist or a toothbrush, all you need is you ol' two fingers and some fresh sea water!
Thanks barefooters for your help, my dreams have come true!

i dont have a car so getting to those places is kind of hard, the shortest route to and through ridge road is about 22 miles and it is kind of rocky
