Arizona-the new UTEP?

Foreign athletes in US schools is about the last "problem" that US athletes need to be worrying about. For the most part, foreign athletes fill the void left by the huge decline in HS performances/performers since the 70s and early 80s and actually enhance competition which in turn helps most of the best US runners. No truly deserving US runner is missing out on scholarship $ or coaching due to the presence of foreigners on the scene. If you did some investigating you'd also find out that most of the foreigners don't enter college with athletic credentials that are much better than any typical HS All-American. You'd also find out that "developing US runners" is not listed anywhere in the job description of any college coach, that's not what they're paid to do.

I have to agree with face facts. Also, I believe that foreign student-athletes bring a great service to the academic setting. You definitely learn a great deal from these individuals and their culture. Why shelter yourself in the great experience of college?

Face Facts- What are the fact? The topic was what teams out there can win championships without foreigners and the situation of foreign coaches giving money to foreign runners. And if foreigners have the same credentials as american runners coming into college why pick them over the americans. What facts do you have. Here's one. John McDonnell has NEVER EVER won a championship without a foreigner. Wetmore is the only coach to win a mens/womens team title and individual men/women titles- he did it with nothing but "Americans". There isn't a coach besides Wetmore and Lannana, out there that has the "BALLS" to go all american and expect to win. To me that doesn't say much for their faith in Americans.

*Look at Bulter last year (4th) nothing but foreigners.

I think you need to consider that many foreign athletes improve vastly when put under the tutelage of these coaches you 'have no respect for'. Look at Craigg at Arkansas, he came a long way under mcdonnel before he was a star. And the arkansas team now has many us runners on it who are scoring for their squad. I would also contend that many of these schools aren't loaded with foreigners as you said. (admittedly UTEP was) NAU for example, never had any kenyans, usually had a swedish runner or two, and then was filled with american runners. A casual look down the roster of names might lead you to think they were foreigners, but Ron Mann recruited southwestern Native American runners for years, who would technically be the only TRUE all americans. If you think that it is wrong for ncaa teams to have foreigners on their roster, than you my friend do not embody the principals this nation was founded on. Would you prefer that Kenya shut down its borders and never allow professional americans into eldoret to learn 'the secret'? I bet you would be the first to proclaim how unfair and selfish that would be. What does being from China have to do with anything/ Do you honestly think the Chinese olympic committee or anyone else in China gives a damn about NCAA xc? Do you think there is some sort of worldwide conspiracy to bring down american distance running? I would be curious to hear your views on muslims while your at it.

Rub the poo out of your eyes and look again, the topic was also about "Why are Americans so poorly prepared on the international levels?"

There are plenty of reasons that are apparent to anyone with even the slightest bit of insight and knowledge of collegiate athletics. Have you even been to college yet, my illiterate little friend?

Yep...I agree!....I am sick of foreigners! ....Cant we have something we call our own?....I wish we did!.....If there was a vote on the front page of letsrun.com I believe most would vote to keep them out. If they want to do it the "American Way" let them pull themselves up from their own boot straps like my father and grandfather. We owe them nothing. Especially scholarships!......When did being a "victim" become so popular in America? It is getting where people enjoy telling testimonials so others feel sorry for them. I pitty them and there nothing worst then pitty. It wont be long before foreigners will be just like our poor in a America. It wont be called welfare or giving someone a chance it will called a entitlement.

Arizona wont be touched at PAC-10's in XC, they are going to maul Stanford!! In regard to foreigners, what teams ranked in the top 10 just have Americans on their rosters?

Falcon won the dream mile in 3:49, the others have never done nothing on a world stage! None of them won a team title minus foreigners.
