Rand Paul would rather have more Americans die than lose his base. The irony is that he's doing this at the cost primarily of the lives of his base! Brilliant!!!

Tens of millions of people to be evicted due to lockdowns and you belittle this?
What a dupe
You belittle the 500000+ people who died every single day.

Yes.
Knowing the facts is just terrible. Just accept the official narrative, do what we are told, and shut up

Oh please. The number of people who died solely die to Covid is no more than 20k or 30k.
I just read an article stating that 1 in 6 adults have been sterilized/vaccinated.
Another positive result, doctors have started prescribing AstraZeneca vax to individuals suffering with hemophilia, making nebulous claims about a pair of birds with a single stone.
Things are starting to turn around.
"Masks are for wussies..."
Seriously?
You can say that, reflect on it, and still not see the false bravado and irrationality?
I cant think of any thing to say to people who so forcefully assert and expose their ignorance like this. Your ego is not the issue in this pandemic except in that it will aid the virus in its path of destruction.
Granny said it best: we get what we deserve.
I read stats they sat 1 in 10 Americans have been sick with Covid.
And that over 500,000 excess deaths due to Covid.
Does not mean I believe such BS for a second.
I like to do this weird thing called "thinking". Something we are not supposed to do any more
My math shows we are at, at least 68 percent 'herd immunity' in the US as of this moment. This number should be above 70 percent by the weekend. There is no other airborne virus that has not died off spectacularly at this point.
Here on Letsrun, factually inaccurate thread titles are encouraged if the target is right.

I sympathize with your sentiment, and I think the efficacy of masks are quite questionable, comparing the death numbers of Nordic/ex-soviet countries and the rest of Europe, and the insufficient particulate rating of N95s.
However, while vaccinations and non-lethal cases have already cut potential deaths by 68%, we're still not quite out of the water yet. Functional precautions like social distancing, and the cancellation of large social events is still warranted.
The mortality rate, with is probably closer to .4% than the .24% figure you cited, still means that another 284,500 more people would die if every American without vaccine protection got the virus.
That's a greater number than what we had this winter, and still more than enough to screw up ICUs and postpone other people's cancer surgeries, emergency medical events, etc.
Also, although I think it is likely that mutations will ultimately make the virus less dangerous and more cold-like in a few years, early mutations can be just as dangerous ando pose somewhat of a threat to the effectiveness of our vaccines. Because mutations are chance events, preventing them depends on keeping low case numbers.
Still though, we're almost there, and with every day passing, it becomes less and less likely that we'll have a severe "4th wave". In 3 months, once everyone has had access to a vaccine, there will be a very strong case for a FULL RETURN TO NORMAL and if our officials refuse to provide this, I'm sure a lot of moderates like myself will be joining you in the streets.
Since this forum wouldn't let me edit the typos on my previous post, I'm reposting for clarity...
I sympathize with your sentiment, and in comparing the death numbers of non-mask-wearingNordic/ex-soviet countries with mask-wearing nations in the main part of the continent, there isn't a statistical difference, which makes sense considering that even our best N95 masks aren't regulated below .3 microns (for reference, coronavirus particulates are .only 05 to .1 microns in diameter), and the cloth masks that most people wear are many tenfolds worse.
With this being said, while vaccinations and non-lethal cases have already cut potential deaths by 68%, we're still not quite there yet, so functional precautions like social distancing, and the cancellation of large social events are still warranted.

Yes, the relative risk of a COVID case will be "literally just the flu" after we are all vaccinated (roughly...). If vaccines don't get us back to normal in the eyes of officials, then nothing will.
We innovated our way out of this with great costs, but we should at least get to enjoy the results this summer.
