Nice run, runworks's calc puts it as equivalent to a 2:30:32 marathon. And with no other competition!

https://twitter.com/Bill_Schum/status/1382037019359055877That's 5:47 pace. I remember in HS it felt like a big deal when I first ran sub 18 for 5k (sub 5:48 pace), but Des just did it 10 times in a row.
Wow, pretty consistent. Human metronome.

It strikes me as more impressive than that, considering she came through the marathon only 40 seconds slower.
I like how we've progressed to where distance events all take place on a bike path in Oregon.
It's the Hayward Field of road running.

now she can do this over as 10 x 5k and descend each 5k by .5 seconds
I have no idea how optimized the calculator is for events beyond a marathon, but adding an extra 5 miles and running about 4 seconds per mile slower seems about right. Definitely not knocking her performance by any means.

LOL, I only ran under 18 ONE time in my life (when I was 51). After running 9 sub-18 5Ks in a row, she would still beat me at my lifetime best. Great run for her.
And, I also don't understand how anyone could be a Desiree hater. I hope she keeps doing what she loves doing.
nice run for Des! great job!
McMillian gives it a stronger result, which in retrospect I agree with more: 2:28:18
So averages out to 2:29:45 or so for both calculations.
stupid Q tho: isn't she the oly trial marathon alternate? Didnt she risk knocking herself out of that role with this run? I guess they could always select the next alternate and so forth however..

Out of respect, we need to refer to her by her preferred name. It is now De. This follows the natural progression from Desiree to Desi to Des. Next year she will transition from De to simply D. After that she will be referred to only by a guttural sound that cannot be transcribed. Thank you for your attention and sensitivity.
Genuinely the best post I've ever seen anywhere.
Good run. Congrats to her.

Even if one of the top 3 from the trials were injured and not in a position to finish the marathon this summer, they wouldn't give up their spot. Being an Olympian is too valuable.
Linden is realistic enough to know that she's not going to the Olympics this year, even if it is still hypothetically possible.
How did she know herself out? The Olympic marathon isn't until August. If anything, it shows she's in great shape.

This run is shots fired from Des about her fitness, if anything.
But someone should give up their spot for Sara Hall, at the very least.

My comment was only about the >chances of injuring yourself during a run such as this.
What little I know about professional marathoners is that runs above ~18 milers or so are frowned upon precisely for this reason: injuries are more likely to occur out there. Not that she cant recover in time for August
Apparently you know very little about professional marathoners.
Why should someone give up their spot to Sara Hall? Sara didn't finish the Olympic Trials race. Aliphine, Molly, and Sally did -- before everyone else -- and earned those spots.

Yeah...you know absolutely nothing about professional marathoners if you think they don't go above 18miles. 40km training runs aren't uncommon, especially in Kenya. No professional marathoner tops out at 18.
