Just threw out my Marc Scott over mitts.

I understand where you are coming from but I believe Schumacher is preparing them all for the Olympic Games. I am sure the pace set for these guys will be sit on what the pace was last summer for Mo Ahmed and Lopez Lomong. Sub 13
The best decision he could make---makes complete sense. Focus on your buildup to the Olympics, was never a big fan of Marc Scott. This just changed my opinion of him. I will be rooting for him this summer.
Meanwhile Alexis pappas can’t run for a country that she’s not actually from fast enough.
Top US athletes decline opportunities to represent their country all the time. The most obvious example I can think of is the marathon at every World Championships, when the top runners almost never choose to go. Turning down spots on World XC teams was not uncommon in the past. And who cares anyway? How many British citizens will really feel diminished in any way about somebody else taking Marc Scott's place at European Indoors?
Quite the opposite,
Phil Sesemann has taken his place and it's great to see a top domestic athlete get a crack of the whip on the international stage - works as a doctor too!

Personal opinion: Who really cares about indoors? The athletes get paid about 50p and a packet of crisps for participating. Can't say I blame people for being disinterested. I would be too. I could tell you the men's WR holder by heart in any commonly run outdoor distance but have no idea who holds any of the indoor records...
Ingebrigtsen is and he's a lot more chance of a medal at the Olympics. I think Scott got carried away with that 27:10 it's still a minute down on the world record. He should have taken his chance and gone for a medal
I think a combination of travel, quarantine. Hassle getting back out to the states...missing a couple weeks training with jet lag.
Besides...I bet Nike don't even bonus him for winning euro indoors. But they'll bonus a sub 13:00 5k ;)
Who is Marc Scott?
The country representation in TF is silly anyways. A guy playing for the Yankees doesn’t wear a Venezuela jersey and most fans could probably identify a player as a foreigner but not beyond that.
Throw on top of that there are around 2 or 3 global chances for a runner to represent their country each year and it becomes unmanageable.
Finally, it would be a much better way to rep your country to win an Olympic medal than a Euro Indoor. It is a zero sum game. In an Olympic year, you do what is best for your Olympic performance.

Wow, that's a very interesting point of view.
Why?
I agree with you

Looks like he learned a lesson and good things can happen when you actually race for your country.
Great he got the bronze
True runners prioritize fast times over medals.
Medals only show the leaderboard on a given day. Times tell you the leaderboard in the entire history of the sport.
The leaderboard you slowly fall down when other people run faster, especially now with technology making runners faster.
I don’t remember older fast runners for times, but I know the ones with medals. A medal is always remembered
Paula Radcliffe will always be remembered.
Will she?
