this couldn't even cut it as a Dave Rubin segment

Who? The only Rubin I know is the wrongfully imprisoned Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, who has (surprise, surprise) never been invited to host Sesame Street.

The people angrily denigrating the joke are either painfully unaware of the joke
Can you imagine being so massively, brutally dumb to think that someone is simultaneously aware of the 'joke' that is this thread to be able to comment on whether or not it is funny, but is ALSO unaware of the joke? How would that even work? Like...they recognize the joke structure, but it's not beating them over the head heard enough? There's nothing subtle about this to be missed.

This is not "fairly funny." Sesame Street is a mirror, and in it we see reflected the black* rot at the heart of our collective American soul.
*I acknowledge that the linguistic usage of "black" to symbolize corruption and decay is troubling and problematic, and I will spend the remainder of the morning reflecting on the privilege that allow it to spill from my fingers with such blind disregard for the marginalized peoples it retraumatizes.

How about we cancel this whole country?
Sadly, that may be the kind of radically restorative movement that it will take to rebuild America with a stronger, more equitable foundation. The bedrock, the concrete footings, the very rebar itself must be built of high-tensile, cold-rolled carbon steel JUSTICE. We will also need to make considerations for drainage; perhaps a sump pump will be necessary, or at least a good dehumidifier.
Let's start by canceling Sesame Street and work up from there.
GOP hates Sesame Street because all the characters are non-white.

Flagged for gross (GROSS) objectification of a POC.

Amen. Frances Perkins, trailblazing pioneer*. Rest in Power, Frances.
*The term "pioneer" may or may not be an offensive reference to manifest destiny and the horrors of westward expansion. I will further educate myself and report back.

An electrically-impaired clock is right twice a day. Even a nonnormatively-sighted squirrel finds a nut sometimes. Etc.

Update: The P word is wrong and is cancelled. It is wrong now, and it was wrong when I used it 58 minutes ago. I own my mistake. To those I have hurt: I am sorry. I don't expect nor deserve forgiveness at this time, but I hope to earn redemption through the personal change and growth that I hope you will recognize in me over time.
People are allowed to take themselves far the seriously. I miss when the freaks just shut up.

Well bad news Bubba, cause the freaks are HERE, we’re QUEER (and/or identify as members of similarly marginalized groups, with special amplification of voice given to those with multiple intersecting marginalized identities), and we’re going to CANCEL SESAME STREET.

It has come to my attention that I hurtfully (albeit unintentionally) neglected to include not only queer but also queer-adjacent identities and for that I am deeply apologetic, but I think we all know that CSS has always been an ally of QuAdj folk.
Man, you really love to see your print on the internet, don't you? I once had a runner like you on the team. He was a cancer that almost destroyed the chemistry we had. I cancelled him....
A Distressing Update
My legal advisors have informed me that I, CSS, have been accused of unreciprocated close-dancing by a not inconsequential number of folk, events mostly tracing to a West Village nightclub in and around the summer of 1987. Although I remember the events of these nights quite differently, it was an admittedly heady time to be a young activist and mistakes may have been made.
I stand with all survivors of suggestive dancefloor contact and will be engaging in acts of restorative justice.
More to follow as I learn and grow.

OK, now do the right's cancel culture. Here's a couple of examples
French Fries
Dixie Chicks
Colin Kaepernik
Nike, for continuing to use Kap as a spokesperson
Jim Crow
Kathy Griffin
Anybody in the last 100 years who was fired for being: gay, atheist, or even had a hint of communist
and anyone on this list of people or businesses that Trump wanted cancelled.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/07/politics/fact-check-trump-cancel-culture-boycotts-firings/index.htmlLike I said, you're funny when satirizing those who you disagree with. Now take the hatchet to your own.

How dare you. HOW DARE YOU assume my sociopolitical truth.
HOW DARE YOU question my integrity or commitment to progressive causes like canceling high-quality and mostly delightful public television programing that despite its significant contributions to several generations of children's social-emotional and intellectual development still manages to reinforce structures of systemic injustice.
THIS ? IS ? NOT ? A ? JOKE ?
CANCEL ? SESAME ? STREET ? AND ? PROBABLY ? ARTHUR ? TOO ?
