Warhurst’s resume as a coach is incredibly overlooked in the discussions of most successful coaches and most influential in training philosophies.
Tinman has certainly done an excellent job of advertising his training as revolutionary and groundbreaking, although Warhurst has been doing it for a couple decades longer and to far greater affect.
“Multi-tier workouts”...AKA hills, tempo, and track reps in single sessions, Warhurst has been doing in Ann Arbor since...the ‘70’s? No pseudo-science or fancy jargon necessary.
I was just reminded of this recently when Warhurst’s latest kid ran 3:57 and broke the national HS record. Amazing to me how little recognition he gets. Just think it’s a shame credit isn’t given where it’s due in the coaching world and appreciated in the broader running world.
You’d be hard pressed to find a coach that has more sub 4 milers, sub 13:30, and sub 28:30 guys. Any high school or college coaches looking to better there program would be well served to research this man and his philosophies on training.
