I am 32 and graduated from undergrad at a decent State U school in 2012 with some STEM degrees. I'm now back in school at another State U that is not as good as my undergrad one but should be comparable, and I'm pursuing a MS degree in a related, more quantitative STEM field. Something that has been very apparent to me is that the difficulty of the classes as well as how hard I am graded here are both far easier than at my school from 10 years ago. The homework is easier, the tests are easier, and I receive higher grades for the same quality of work. I just took a math test and received a 99% on it, and I'm fairly sure that that same test would have been given about an 80% at my old school 10 years ago. I can't tell if this has more to do with the schools or the time period.
I have heard from a couple professors that rigor has gone down over the last 10 years, but I thought I would consult letsrun. Any academics here who care to comment?
