I expected him to run fast today, but not this fast. Up until now I’ve viewed Cooper as much more of a 5k and 3k kinda guy. But now I’m not so sure. What do you think, should he switch to the 1500 and mile?

A 1500m runner needs to be capable of sub-1:47 800m to medal in 1500m at Olympics &/or W.C. Rounds usually hit 1200m split in 2:57 to 3:03. Indoor 1500m & 3000m are make believe anyway.
no, definitely not. the other poster is quite correct, 1500 rounds are taxing.
better to do what fisher, hunter have done and apply that speed to the 5000
If he hasn't already, he should start doing miler training and bust out 6x400 with 200 jog or 6x400 with 100 sprint between reps instead of long distance training. I think that's good for 5 seconds at least in the span of a couple months. This guy has potential.

Hello Shamuel it is I Ben Thomas Oregon track coach. I have been called the best mid distance coach since Jumbo Elliot and I thought I had it all together, now I realize I was all wrong
Cole hunter teare and I were all celebrating but after seeing your revolutionary training methods I’m quickly sending them back onto the track for 6x400 with 100 “sprint “ recovery
Thanks a lot, good luck breaking 5:20

It sort of depends on where he wants to be competive. Right now I think a 3:50 miler has a better chance of making the olympic team than a 13:17 5000m. But in the olympics your 3:33 guy isn't doing much. A 5k guy with 3:50 speed has a chance to be a 12:55 type guy and that is good enough to put you in the medal hunt.
Obviously the big wild card is how fast does he run a 5000m. Is he in better shape now than Dec and a 13:0x about to happen or is he still in that 13:17 range. Cole Hocker is in the exact same boat.
I believe that is useful for 5 seconds in any event in the range several months. This person has potential.

Another great has entered the ring. Now it's a toss-up between the already established greatest ever, JS, and this guy.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
