I was talking to a female friend of mine about the controversy regarding Yoshiro Mori, the 83-year old head of the Tokyo Olympics organizing committee, who said the following this week.
Mori said:
“When you increase the number of female executive members, if their speaking time isn’t restricted to a certain extent, they have difficulty finishing, which is annoying...Women are competitive. When one person raises a hand, others think they need to speak up as well. That’s why everyone speaks.”
My friend said, "Is the dude just totally clueless and sexist or are things culturally much different in Japan as compared to the US?" I was like, "What do you mean?"
She replied, "At my work, it's the exact opposite of what he describes. The men are the one's always talking and trying to be super competitive and prove a point and delaying everything. The women only speak if they are adding something important."
So Letsrun what's it like at your work? Who generally talks more at meetings? Or is it the same? Is there any chance there is a cultural difference between the US and Japan or is this dude just old and wrong?
