I ran low 4:40’s for the mile this past fall, around 2-3 months before my peak cross country race. I ended up only running a 16:31 5k at my peak fitness, which would convert to around a 16 flat if I ran it on a flat terrain. I’d like to think that I was in better shape around my peak race than I was at the mile. For some more context, I was running a little over 50 miles for most of the season (my mile was ran at a 50 mile week) and I tapered to 30 miles towards the end of the training block. I’d like to hear some thoughts from other runners regarding what event I might be best at come track season.
