Unless you are running 100m in 11.x or faster with little or no training, you aren't specifically FT. (Many distance and MD guys can run 11.x after a couple years training, without focusing on sprint training).
And if you have been training for a year or two and you can't run 10.x, you aren't FT.
That is a bit like saying, if your marathon time is slower than 2:06, you can't be ST.
Or saying Usain Bolt is not FT, once he is about 50 and can't break 11 sec.
If it is defined by 100m time, it means that older runners, females etc cannot be accurately categorised.
Right, that makes sense. Giving a HS boy a reasonable, generic guideline for HS boys re FT (so that he can understand that his self-assessment as FT probably isn't relevant) is exactly the same as:
- making a declaration that non-elite-elite marathoners are not ST.
- stating that an off-the-cuff guideline for HS boys universally applies to 50yo former sprinters, old fogies, and females.
- saying that if a fat cat can't catch a squirrel, the kitty ain't FT.
- declaring that the maple tree in my backyard isn't growing 100m taller every 10.x sec, so it isn't a fast-twitch tree.
yep, all those are the same as my original comment. Sheesh :)
