just about the only good news I've seen out of DC lately.
would be so great not only to fix a weak foundation of American democracy, but also to get an important piece of bipartisan legislation on the board.
But it's anti-Trump at its core, so I'm sure the Rs will blow it up in the end.

Electoral Count Act reform is picking up GOP support:
- Rep. Jim Banks says the 1887 law is "muddled, flawed" and Congress "must clarify" it.
- A bipartisan Senate group working on it has grown to ~12 members, including Portman & Ernst.
It's always easy to criticize, of course, but something like this really makes me wonder about priorities on the D side. 6 January is 12+ months in the rear view mirror, and how much has one heard about this effort? Not much, and only very recently, for the average news consumer (like me). How about some urgency?
I am curious about the politics. Are the D leaders really smart politicians who fully understand the democracy threat, but believe that bills having nothing to do with it (e.g., infrastructure) are the best way to win future elections? (and keep the Rs out of power) Or, as it's easy to think, are they still locked in normal issues politics, and aren't doing nearly enough, fast enough, to blunt the threat of autocracy?
Fearing the Rs as I should, I hope that Nancy and Chuck and Joe are being real smart about this, but.....
