So a guy retires on social media. An Olympic gold medallist and the former elite athlete coordinator for the NYRR both wish him good luck and rave about him..... as a rabbit.
I then comment on their comments and I'm somehow the bad guy? If anything, shouldn't they be the ones beeing ripped? When I saw their comments, I kind of thought, "Wow that's kind of a weird thing to post on social media as social media is normally more of a tribute place."
I was actually complimenting the dude and saying he ran way faster than most guys with his credentials at 800 / xc. The reality is the truly elite big boys of the 1500 normally are faster than him or have better endurance or actually both . I remember one year Wheating was right with my guy at NCAA xc in 2008. . So Wheating was 75th at NCAA xc and he ran 1:44. Merber was 98th at NCAA XC in both 2011 and 2012 and ran 1:47. Remember, Wheating ran 14:55 for 5k in HIGH SCHOOL.
What do you want me to say? Merber was an Olympian? If he'd gone the Alex Pappas route, he could have been one.
The point of the messageboard is it's a place where FANS can debate and talk about things. It's not supposed to be a safe place where athletes post PR statements.
