I am a 24-year-old female who has been running seriously for almost a year, and half-seriously (?) for about 1/2 year before that. 1.5 years ago I did a 5k time trial in 24:30, and a 10k time trial in 54:55. For the past 9 months I have consistently been running anywhere from 30-50 miles per week, with a good mixture of easy runs, long runs, tempos, intervals, and fartleks. I have mostly been training alone, however I did join a training group for 6 weeks when Covid cases were down in my area (they have since gone up so this is no longer happening).
Here are my current PBs:
1 mile - 5:54 (November 2020)
5k - 19:52 (October 2020)
Half-marathon - 1:31:52 (November 2020)
In a recent tempo run I hit the 10k mark at 42:24, which leads me to believe I could at least go 41:30 in a 10k race if not faster.
Right now in interval workouts I'm consistently hitting 83-89s for 400s, sub 3 minutes for 800s, and sub 3:50 for kilometer repeats.
Am I naive for thinking that it's possible , given my improvement in 1.5 years and frankly how drastic the improvement is, that I have a talent for running and that I still have room for substantial improvement? Or is this normal for consistent 30-50mpw training? It's not like I think I have some kind of career LMAO, but I'm wondering if maybe this is something I should take more seriously. Thoughts? :)
