40e km : 2h25'38" J Hasay
30 (M) runners under 2h10 !!!
Abel Kirui misses his personal best by 1 second 2:05.05
Finish in 2h33'51" for Hasay
Oof.
Hasay was 48 seconds back at 5k, 1:52 at 10k, 3:32 at 15k , and she kept sliding all the way. She was in 30th at one point and ended up finishing 27th. She went through the half at 1:14:53, not much off her half of a few weeks ago.

That's a big F for Hasay. I guess she gets credit for finishing?

That's amazing if true...he must have set his PR in 2009 if I recall.
Today finally puts to bed the need to have comparisons with the old great like Geb and Tergat with the current generation. We just can't compare times anymore. Abel Kirui missed his Pr by 1 second, he was dominant 10 years ago. 4 under world half marathon record. We just just start from 2016 onwards. This race also will have an asterisk beside it, how many have wada tested this year, its surely a free for all with the injections.
The one bright spot is Adidas won the shoe battle hands down, therefore it's now a more level playing field on the technology front.

A little harsh, I’d give her at least an F+...

We're turning this into the official thread. Originallly it was titled: "Are you ready for the DEEPEST marathon EVER? Sunday's Valencia Marathon is laughably good"
The weather now is looking to be pretty good. 45 degrees and winds 11-12 mph. Earlier in the week the wind was looking to be higher.
My God these fields are incredible. Since the start of 2017, we have been tracking the personal bests of the elite fields at the six major marathons. And the depth on display @maratonvalencia on Sunday far, far exceeds anything we've seen during that period.
Will Eliud Kipchoge still be considered the world #1 on Monday morning?

Two questions arise from the original preview: Jonathan mentioned seven stories then wrote about six? And has Evans Chebet come from the clouds to tip out Kipchoge as world number 1,
or is third here plus a major win in Tokyo add up to enough to go with Birhanu Legese?
Any place to watch the English language VOD of the full marathon? I found the half on youtube--with a spoiler title unfortunately.
The Valencia website's "where to watch" page now has a Spanish language VOD at the top, but the link to "Live English" just leads to the general marathon info page with no video anywhere.

Don’t be a d!ck. The persecution of the Oromo people has been in the news for at least a few years. All the while, your head has been in the sand and up Allen53’s a$$ masturbating to covid conspiracies.
I would love to hear about your support for Idi Amin’s social policies or your disbelief that Khmer Rouge participated in any atrocities. You’re an obtuse douche bag.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
