Just a little confused about this type of training. I know it's definitely a little too early to be thinking about this, but I don't understand what SOM is. I know it involves running doubles about 3-5 times a week, (or as much as possible) increasing mileage, and doing two workouts per week (one probably about 5x1600 or 16x200 and the other a 4-5 mile tempo run). However, can somebody help me and correct me if I'm wrong about this? This is what I am thinking about for a sample week of about 60 miles. Feel free to leave a comment about the sample week schedule.
Monday: AM - 4 miles easy, PM - 6 miles easy
Tuesday: AM - 3 miles easy, PM - 5x1600 track workout
Wednesday: AM - 3 miles easy, PM - 8 miles easy
Thursday: AM - 4 miles easy, PM - 4 mile tempo run
Friday: AM - 5 miles easy, PM - 6 miles easy
Saturday: REST or cross train (I myself need 1 day of rest from running; I know this from experience)
Sunday: AM - 2 miles easy, PM - 10 mile easy long run
Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but wouldn't this put a lot of extra strain on my body and increase the risk of injury due to running so many times in such a short period of time? The optimal recovery time between runs is about 24 hours, (or so I've heard) and so wouldn't this type of training promote injury? Sorry if I am very ignorant about this, but I am relatively new to higher mileage/doubles training.
