Stonehill > UMASS Lowell?!?
no way
Stonehill beat Lowell at NE10's this weekend which accounts for their rankings. Close team scoring 33-38 or something like that. Lowell has generally been stronger than Stonehill at 10k the past couple of years but anything can happen on any given day. Assuming they both qualify for NCAA's, I wouldn't be surprised if one of these schools stepped up into the top 10 at Pomona. Lowell has a little more potential on the top end (Morasse), but Stonehill looks a little tighter 1-7.
The RMACC courses were long this weekend. Probably accounts for the drop in UCCS and Mines. The men's course was close to 600m long and the women's was over 4 miles. Colorado Christian didn't measure the course, but guessed on mile markers.

I am refering to the drop in the women's rankings.
Chico in front of Western?? Come on now
oh the horror!
I agree with the new rankings. Chico deserves to be ranked 2nd. They have an awesome pack this year that is stronger than usuall- Guys running mid to low 24's. They are pretty deep, and they are consistent. I know it is hard to compare courses, especially the ones that Western runs vs. the courses that Chico runs, but I think you gotta give it to Chico right now-They are looking strong
I think its up in the air, adams is definitely looking the strongest, but I think theres a few teams in a position to sneak up to the top ranks...
As someone who has repeatedly raced against these top three teams, Im going to make a bold prediction, and I know you'll all call me crazy (Except maybe EITS):
1) Chico State (That pack is really going to surprise some people, possible to put 7 in front of Adams and Westerns 5th)
2) Western State (Improving every race, Donnan getting healthy, Bodor Improving wont win regionals, but will get Adams at the big one, only to fall short to the Cats)
3) Adams State (Probably, the best 3rd place in the history of D2, they just dont have the mid pack depth)
4) Abilene Kenyan (An individual champion in Nicodemus is almost a given with the way the RMAC runners are running this year)
5) Grand Valley State (Coming on extremely strong at the end of the season and could challenge ACU for a trophy, unless they peaked at confrence)
Note: These are my nationals predictions, not who is running the best right now.
1. Adams State (Chico's 5th guy might beat Adam's 5th guy, but I don't think Chico can make up enough pts with that to offset adams top few guys)
2. Chico (I think the pack will pull through for second)
3. Western (I know the least about this team, but I know they got beat pretty handily by Adams earlier, and I just don't think they are as strong as they have been in the past)
4.) Abilene (probably have the individuall title, and if their other guys run close to what they should I think they will be 4th. They have no depth after 5 guys though, so one slip up could cost them)
5.) Harding University (My team- Grand Valley has a better pack but I think we should put at least 2, probably 3 guys in front of their one. Our 4 man should be able to run close to their top 3, and our 5th man shouldn't be too far behind their 5th. I don't think their pack can make up for hardings top 3 to 4 guys. I'd like to think Harding could bring home a trophy this year, but we are going to have to have something major go our way to break the top 4 I think)
Does anyone know if Joel Martinez is still running for Chico. I thought he had one more year. Is he hurt or redshirting or is he just done? It seems that in years past he has not been a factor during the season and then runs at nat's and is an All-American (2X I think). If he does that agian this year that just makes Chicos pack stronger.
Stonehill does not have a tighter 1-7 than Lowell. Lowell had 8 guys all-conference...Stonehill only had 6. Explain to me how you got to that conclusion.
the smaller meets are always much closer with lowell and s'hill. The bigger the meet, the more of an advantage for lowell. It seems like Lowell either doesnt run well, or doesnt run all their varsity at the conference meet each year

i have not looked at the results of the meet, but just b/c one team has 8 all-conference versus anothers 6 doesn't mean anything as far as how tight their pack is. a tight pack refers to the time gap. maybe there were huge time gaps at certain places in the results (in the all-conference part of the results). maybe you're right about stonehill not having a tighter 1-7 compared to lowell but it isn't neccessarily the places.
I think Harding is a good team, but I wholeheartedly disagree that they'll put 2-3 guys in front of Grand Valley's #1. GVSU's top guy this year was 19th last year at NCAA's (in front of Julius Kosgei, Harding's #2 this year), and their #3 from this year was 39th last year (in front of Harding's #3 last year), and a sub 30 guy on the track I believe. I'm sorry, but I just don't see them getting dominated up front like that. The weather will likely be warm in Pomona though (as it was last time), so bully for the midwest and mtn. teams where temps are probably topping out in the mid 50's these days.

lowell alumni-
My apologies, I only had the top 5 for Stonehill and Lowell in front of me when I posted earlier. Stonehill's top 5 were tighter than Lowell's at NE10's, but you are correct that Lowell's 6-7-8 were in front of Stonehill's #7. Watching the race Lowell's 8 guy was not close to their other guys coming up the last hill before 7k but he must have put on a huge charge to finish right with them based on the chip splits.
Bottom line is that both Stonehill and Lowell are like a lot of teams who will be at DII's in a few weeks. On a good day either team can be top 10, on a bad day mid-high teens probably. I was hoping Lowell would have gotten Kapfer eligible for this fall. With him they're definitely a contender for top 6.
You are right about last years results, and it may be a closer race between Harding and Grand Valley State than I made it sound like.
I know Harding's number one should be a descent amount ahead of Nate Peck, and I am pretty confident that Julius, if healthy, will also be in front of him.
It will probably be a closer race between Harding and Grand Valley than I made it sound earlier though. I forgot how well they ran last year at nationals. It will definately be a good race.
