They should have done this the same day as the announcement. Who wants to compete for a university that treats their athletes like that?
This is impressive. Good for them for taking a stand. They’re willing to put their own scholarships and athletic futures on the line to stand up for the men’s team.

Probably took them a while to get organized, draft the letter and coordinate with the alumni mentioned. They've still got plenty of time as men's track doesn't officially go away till after this school year.
I love this. Heard the womens swim team did the same thing. Sisters to the rescue...
Kudos to the W&M women!
oh this cool... So now would William and Mary be in violation of some Title IX rule?
The athletic department is happy to hear that it can save money on travel and gear and coaching.
Other than their families and coaches, who would notice?
The CAA is already a joke, and this would cut it down to 7 teams on the track.
And with W&M cutting sports, I think schools like Delaware and Northeastern are really looking to find a new conference. The CAA is going to be GONE in 5 years.

This creates a title 9 issue for the administration and title 9 compliance was one of the reasons they used to justify these cuts in the first place.
Title IX is impossible to comply with during Covid since schools are allowed to keep athletes an extra year. Nobody is monitoring it. They are loving that the women are volunteering to helps the school save money.
meh

Took the words out of my mouth. These women should be commended. It's good to see a boycott that actually means something.
They should cut both teams. Where is the $$ gonna come from. Selfish kids.
The women are just getting men's swimming or men's gymnastics cut too.

I hope this works and they bring the guys team back but it would be kind of hilarious if they just cut the women’s team too

Same here. I have all the admiration for them that a person can have.
They will and they will have to take down another men's team. Thanks women.

I believe title IX just says the sports have to be 'offered'. Women boycotting would not affect the fact that W&M is offering the sports. However, roster numbers or some other caveat may come into play.
Regardless, I am glad young people are becoming bolder and standing up for what they feel is right rather than "just taking it" like previous generations seemed to do with a few exceptions.
