Hi all
I have had a MN for the past few years. No pain, but very annoying “shock” along 3rd and 4th toes when stepping or flexing foot. Used to go away after about 15 minutes of running. Then it started to last longer. I switched to Hokas and was fine at the beginning of a run but it would come on during the last half. Curling my toes on that foot as I ran helped, and a toe spacer helps a lot.
After doing some research, I learned that the experts all recommend low/zero drop shoes with a wide toe box. I landed on Altra and bought Escalante for the road and Timp 2 for the trails. Here’s the strange part - these cause the worst manifestation of the neuroma I have ever felt! Literally every step the whole way through a run will shock my foot. Going back to the narrow Hokas almost makes it seem to be gone. Other than that, I love the Altras and the zero drop is just what I needed for other reasons.
Has anyone else had a similar experience, where a wide toe box causes more sensations than the narrow one that supposedly caused the problem in the first place? Can’t figure this one out.
Thanks for any input you can share
