Shocking! Unbelievable!
Schumacher pulls out at last minute after pretended to be truly interested. Was there ever any chance they were going? Why go through the charade of calling Hanson, etc? Just to create drama and get your team talked about for the first time since claiming American Records while breaking the rule that more than one team needs to be invited for the record to count. (For those of you who doubt or are unaware of this, refer to the entire thread on the topic, in which the rule is pasted straight from USATF page.)
We know Jerry's Kids don't race unless it furthers access to Olympics and World Championships. This includes USATF Championships when they are selection events (i.e., not in the 'off year'). They will also grudgingly run a random race to get a qualifying mark for USATF an/or WA. That's it. This is not news. There are many threads over the years about this too.
What offends me - and hopefully offends the organisers - is that they couldn't simply ignore the existence of this event like they do with invitationals featuring A-list in every event. Hengelo, Reiti, Monaco, Bislett, Galan, they have no trouble watching these go by without making waves. Does Jerry call the promoters and hassle them only to create some wild excuse 3 days out? What happens when Boston and Chicago are on the horizon? Is there some pretense as to why BTC will not be represented? Or does Jerry just act like nothing is happening in the pro running world? Why couldn't he have used that approach here? According to LRC reporting, Hanson even expressed doubt that they'd be interested. Even after the old 'Hey, you guys don't really want in on this do you?' Jerry still pretends to be interested. By dramatically backpedaling mere days before, he still gets mentioned in the article. It's either that, or BTC doesn't get discussed by Let's Run for 10 months straight. What a joke!
