Rubbish.
I'm sure you said the same about Kenenisa when he kept dropping out and DNFing in Amsterdam 1 mile from the finish.

Kipchoge seemed like the only man in history to not have an off day in any marathon. Good to see he is actually human. Whatever was bothering him, it is commendable to see him bring it home in 8th.
Holy crap.
You know, very early on (mile 3?) Kipchoge looked mortal. Arm carriage was very restricted compared to his normal self.
Did Kipchoge just Bonk? Is this Father Time? Is this just a poor buildup? Had the competition gotten better?
Last thought: Bekele is probably kicking himself right now.
Kipchoge goes home devastated!!!

Not really. Kenenisa is after the record and not much else. Nothing to prove running a 2:05.

We now know it takes more than a year to recover from a sub-2 Marathon.
Turns out running sub-2 really DOES kill a man ?

Or more likely we know that you can’t go on for ever.
Most ‘in the know’ acknowledge that Kipchoge is many years older than his stated age. He’s into his 40s......
It’s been a great career.
Stoked for Stephen Scullion, 2:09:49 is no joke. Pretty bummed about Cam Levins, hope he's okay. Would imagine that Jared Ward isn't gonna be happy about 17th?

What happened to Levins? My stream froze and offline.

Kipchoge missed his bottle at 20km or 25km. Didn't see him grab another one after until maybe 40km when he was already dropped
Yeah Kipchoge's arm movement did look a bit strained and unusual even at like 10k from my perspective. real respect for him gutsing it out til the end.
Guys, it's obvious what happened.
These guys train in groups and until recently he couldn't do that. Kipchoge is all about teamwork and team training.
Because of this he is 1-2% less sharp now normal and bingo, beaten!
Bekele must be kicking himself!!

I think it has to do neither of them. It's the weather. Kipchoge is just to skinny (115 pound at 5'6 IIRC) to run in cold, heavy rain. You could see the top 3 looked huge in comparison.
I’m gonna say Kipchoge got sick. Not Covid-19, but something enough to make him race very slowly for him. No pop in the stride. I hope he’s ok.
Looks like he DNF'd. Results for top 30 are coming in, not seeing him. Was on pace for sub 2:08 through half, as high as 12th at one point. Really unfortunate. Hope he can get another qualifying chance before the window for Tokyo closes.

Do you think that made that much of a difference? I mean, didn’t they have access to the bottles every 1.3 miles? ??♂️ If he didn’t take in enough nutrition, I think that’s on him.

This may be one of the dumbest things I’ve read on this site, and that’s saying something.

Ever heard of 2018 Boston marathon?
This.
Says he was in 12th at 35k in 1:47:26.
