Grote,
Do you ever hear from Kelly? Last I heard he headed south into Mexico with the Barron of Beef and Snake...possibly to avoid a large debt to his bookie. Can you confirm or deny this rumor?
My vote is definitely for King Burrito. That place is filthy authentic. If you haven't had the Sunday morning Menudo you haven't lived.
haha, ya i love the grote poll too. who is this guy? from what i gather, he is a washed up never been ala loser who can't move on from his unmaterialized college racing days and now is a typical over analytical freak which usatf is over stocked with.
put your brain power to better uses while it still has juice.

who are you, some hs sophomore douch? grote rules and if you have any respect for the past, you'd shut the hell up...

And we have our first poster who took the poll way too seriously...
I'll second that no BRENT Vaughn business...owell, it's his poll
Haven't heard from Lambert in awhile, just rumors and urban legend. The Baron of Beef...truly one of the greats...
Gorte, you may be correct on many things, but I have absolutely nothing to do with USATF, and many there probably wish I would just burn in hell (which I may)...even though I give discounts to USATF members and have for over 8 years. As far as unmaterialized college racing goes...right idea perhaps, but wrong term. Whatever happened did in fact happen, so it did materialize. Whether it was disappointing or not is a different story, or whether I'm living in the past, or whatever. College was great, disappointments and all. All in all, I was pretty sucky, and probably overachieved for a sucky guy, which has nothing to do with The Grote Poll. I enjoy the sport, its a great one, and look forward to following it more closely again.
Grote
i rescind my comments. i'm an ass. i really do feel remorseful and sincere. i hate it when i post like a dickhead (which i rarely do).
great odin's raven
very little love for michigan..
and... stuart eagon 18th? c'mon.
Eagon was able to run a recent 10 miler with McDougal without being broken while The Count was broken.

most people would give their left nut to be an all-american (which grote was on the track and nearly in XC)
I like the initial poll, dude. keep it up. see you at NCAAs.
~the former understudy.
there has been a secondhand chops sighting in downtown portland about 6-10 months ago. thats all I got.
Things I agree with: Wisconsin has great brats. Pittsburgh brats are a somewhat distant 2nd. Wisconsin also has great Beer Cheese Soup. There are some things that are great together (Peanut Butter & Jelly) and some things that are great seperately but not together (steak and chocolate), but beer and cheese are definitely two things that go together suprisingly well together.
Things I kind of agree with: Props to U of Portland. Add further props to senior Trevor Coolidge. This former freshman of the year has had a great off season and should be a force to contend with.
gaylord.
First off, no way in hell Withrow beats Gaylord in Cross. With Gaylord training his butt off with the likes of a Kiptoo, Salazar and company will have him ready to challenge for the Top 5. Then again, one can only think that he has never been really a XC kinda Gaylord, more suited to the oval I thinkst (figured Grote would like that kind of syntax).
Speaking of the oval, question is, after you've done more than 1 lap of the track, what else is there to see? That's what 400 meter types ponder day in and day out?
Secondly, the top Frosh will be Cormier because he has the rest of the Texas posse to keep him finely tuned whereas Bumby and Barnicle will be innundiated with homework and could really care less about XC at the NCAA level. Give the edge to Arkansas for less than stellar academic rigors.
Speaking of Bumble-Bee, he best not be smiling while he runs either at the college level. Leave that for the HS ranks. Him and McCleod are the only 2 runners that can run 68 second laps and look like they actually enjoy it.
Lastly, Grote missed one rather simple observation. The meet is in Indiana. That obviously gives home field advantage to one of the Jeffersons.
yeah seriously if there were a women's poll like this it would be a disaster.... the libs would freak, yadda yadda yadda, lawsuits..... title IX....
we'd have to cut the men's poll back to 17 teams, and move the women's one up to 38......

grote- the poll was good and funny as hell until the mid atlantic regional predictions. st. francis of pennsylvania not even in the top 10... ouch. what makes that hurt more is that you got bucknell, lehigh, penn state, etc. ahead of them...poor judgement. st. francis has sheehan (need i say more?) for cross, aj suravicz (4 flat miler), quinn (14:15 5k), and talented underclassmen out the wazoo including a couple 4:10 guys who can run a mean 8k. ....discuss....
Glad to see the poll back, I loved reading it when I was running in college. Keep up the short, one sentence blurbs on Cal Poly, thats just the way Conover and the boys like it.
Here is what UTEP currently has that is accountable for, returning steeple champ Mircea Bogdan, Patrick Mutai 5th place steeple as a frosh, Stephen Samoei 10th at Mountain regionals and NCAA 5K finalist, Japeth Ngojoy NCAA 10 K finalist, add two more kenyans one a1:48 guy and you have the makings of an vintage UTEP team.
