"I wouldnt assume that just because he runs for Hansons if why he was chosen for the World Team."
I wouldn't assume it either, but there is no denying Hanson's push/pull of the World team selection process, not to say many of the Hanson athletes do a fine job, and not to say Mike Morgan doesn't deserve respect for his performances/accomplishment recently. But it is a fact that one of the benefits of being a Hanson athlete is having a bigger door of opportunity in various events available to you. It's not up to me to determine whether it is often the correct way of doing things, that is - in terms of a selecting teams, etc.
You would be niave to NOT assume that the Hanson's have a fairly considerable influence over certain things in involving USATF. I would like to see the MOST qualified athlete go to Worlds in whatever event. The rules for selecting the US Olympic team were all screwed up as well. I just don't know how you can have a TRIALS event where one of the athletes was able to limp across in 31:-- to qualify him for the Olympic Games when he was clearly not capable of performing at his highest level at the Games.
Why is there more than 1 qualification for World Half? Could it be political? Could the Houston Half benefit from being designated "world half qualifier"...etc. Who knows. But I do know the selection process for World events is f***ed up and needs work.
