I am training for the JFK 50 miler, which will be my first ultra. Questions for those who have run the course:
1) Is it necessary to carry water with you (handheld bottle or vest?) or are the aid stations sufficient on their own? What is the aid station setup like? I don't want to have to wait around at any station... ideally I'd like to go right through them and grab some water/calories like during a marathon if that is feasible.
2) What shoes would you recommend for the race? I have a pair each of Vaporfly 4% and Next%, each of which have one marathon on them. I'm tempted to grab the 4%s because I think the return on the last 34 miles will be significant, but am worried about the AT section. Am I crazy for considering this? Should I just stick to trainers?
Thanks for any help!
