Sweden is the real deal. ?
So why were all of the stands empty at the DL meet yesterday?
Why would you expect a drastic difference in death per capita in the long run (it’s been 8 months already), given that hospitals didn’t get over crowded in either nations?
Both Sweden and the US are still experiencing deaths. The US is experiencing more of them per capita on a daily basis right now. So at the end of this game, the number of death per capita in the US and Sweden should still be very similar. We obviously expect the situation to switch, with the US ending with more deaths per capita (when this is all over) due to the obesity problem in the US.
Am I missing something?

Because the Swedes aren't idiots. They have all been doing the social distancing stuff from the start so what the government did didn't matter. A lot of people don't need the government to tell them what to do to make obvious choices.

This is all conspiracy to help Trump!!!! Stop the lies. Swedens death curve was about to go all logarithmic on them and then a few rich people went on holiday in July and it saved the day. On November 4th if Trump is elected Sweden will report tens of thousands of COVID deaths and go on full lockdown until there is a vaccine.
T-cells are a conspiracy theory. The only accurate data we should accept is antibody tests taken in April and death rates reported on CNN in March. If you continue to re-evaluate your opinions on the virus based new data and information you are coward who can not stand by your convictions.
Did you not see how sick Chris Cuomo was in his basement. COVID make him effing nuts and fight a guy in the Hamptons. Do you want to be like Chris Cuomo? He is permanently brain damaged due to COVID, you will be too!!!!!!
What you're missing is that Sweden and the US are heading toward the exact same ends, except that we chose to make life extra miserable for ourselves by hysterically overreacting whereas Sweden did not.
Sweden has only had a handful of deaths in all of August. This was always the plan: accept that a certain amount of death was inevitable, frontload the pain and death in the spring, be immune by summer while the rest of the world drags it along for months and years.
And it looks like it was worked, while we in the US are sitting around wasting away while we wait for a vaccine, and even if we get a vaccine on Trump's watch the media will undermine public faith in it anyway because they won't want to give Trump a win that close to the election (it wasn't tested enough! how do we know it's safe!) and we're going to be living with this for a very long time.
Sweden also adopted a different way of counting (more liberal inclusion) "Covid deaths" and also made huge mistakes in the nursing home sectors which Anders Tegnall admitted to and apologized for unlike scumbag Cuomo who is still trying to sweep these deaths under the rug.

Did you forget what sport was going on? It wasn't soccer or anything else popular.
Sweden deaths were almost all elderly: 70% occurred in elderly care centers, 88% were age 70 and older & only 70 deaths occurred under the age of 50. Their deaths are nothing now, hospitalizations are nil and daily cases are very low = herd immunity.
Maybe CNN should report on this study:
https://news.ki.se/immunity-to-covid-19-is-probably-higher-than-tests-have-shownI saw a pretty healthy looking Chris Cuomo who said he had Covid. In fact, he was so healthy he broke quarantine to check the status of his million dollar home in development! ?

Hi Swede!
Just a reminder: Sweden is doing really really bad.
Check their figures. They are not doing badly at all.
Alright, let's send over the Americans, then.
Travel is open to Sweden for Americans now?
If Sweden has herd immunity with about 8500 cases per mil, why doesn't Texas have it with 21,000 cases per mil? Or Mississippi with 26,000 cases per mil? Why is Brazil still seeing high levels of infection after two months when it is at 17,000 cases per mil? And the foregoing states/country are far less diligent than Sweden when it comes to testing, meaning that their outbreaks are far more widespread than the official data.
The answer is simple. Sweden does not have herd immunity. They have an excellent public health system that has done an excellent job of testing/tracing from very early on in the outbreak, akin to S. Korea's success. The voluntary social distancing measures are more effective than mandatory measures in the US because Swedes believe in science and do not need to be coerced into social distancing whereas people in the US generally blow off social distancing requirements or are not even under the same level of requirements as the voluntary measures in Sweden.

The answer, of course, is that Texas, for example, does have herd immunity, at least
in the big cities now. That is why cases and deaths are going down--it isn't
any change in behavior over that time.
Magic number seems to be about 20% of the population affected for herd
immunity. What is the overall mortality for covid? Estimates I've seen
are like 0.3%.
Deaths are better to look at at, since despite categorization issues, if there is
a death at least it will be counted, whereas if you don't get tested you aren't.
0.2 x 0.003 x 1000000 = 600 per million deaths should be good for herd
immunity. Of course that number will shift a lot if the old folks get, or don't
get, it disproportionately, but that is the ballpark.
Sweden is at 575.
Texas is about 400, ballpark. By the time things are all said
and done will probably end up about like Sweden.
New York, with the idiot mayor and governor, is ~1700!!!
Mississippi is on the way down, so likely has herd immunity,
but is at about 750. First guess would be something like obesity
(isn't something like 40% of the population obese in that part
of the country?) but I haven't looked into it.
Brazil is at about 550 and does look like it is turning over.
The answer is simple Precious McPrecious has no clue what stats mean in the context of epidemiology.
Well done, I had a good laugh.
